Position Overview

iMentor is seeking a dynamic and committed professional to serve as a Program Director, Post-Secondary Success (PD) with the primary responsibility for managing a team of three Program Managers to provide high-level case management support for pairs enrolled in iMentor NYC’s Post-Secondary Success Program (PSP).The PD will create and lead the strategy to implement iMentor’s national PSP model regionally, moving the program from an early innovation stage to a thriving, mature structure. They will lead their team in providing targeted support for approximately 800 pairs, as mentors support students through their post-secondary experience and ideally, matriculation through a 2 or 4-year institution or alternative pathway program. The PD will ensure that the Program Manager team has the tools, resources and data-driven strategy to support long-range outcomes for pairs and help them maintain long-lasting relationships.

The Program Director, Post-Secondary Success will work with a team of high school Program Directors, the Sr. Director of Program, the Executive Director, iMentor’s National Program Team and other collaborators, to assess overall program outcomes and make decisions that optimize program quality, drive participant impact, and ensure parity and model fidelity to achieve organizational outcomes.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in coaching and managing staff in an educational or youth services environment, managing toward results, and have a strong interest in ensuring that first-generation college students have the support needed to succeed. By having extensive knowledge of the post-secondary landscape, they can articulate the needs of adult volunteer mentors who support mentees through their transition from high school. They will have a proven ability to anticipate challenges, solve problems, and think strategically about case management. The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of leadership experience working to support programming within a post-secondary context, a strong customer service orientation, a passion for helping students achieve post-secondary success and the ability to motivate adults of all ages and backgrounds.


Responsibilities

Program and Team Management

  • Formulate and implement a regional strategy to adapt the national Post-Secondary Program model effectively.
  • Strategically guide team on long and short-range planning for case load to ensure student persistence.
  • Manage a team of three Program Managers (PMs), serving students in their first and second year of college.
  • Ensure PMs are effectively coaching their cohort of mentors and mentees through targeted interventions and consistent communication.
  • Provide supervision at least weekly, differentiated coaching, and twice-annual performance reviews for all direct reports.
  • Cultivate a high-achievement, results-driven environment that supports the implementation of iMentor’s model and effectively meets programmatic outcomes and strategic vision.
  • Enhance and develop team culture as a member of iMentor NYC Program Leadership Team.

Data Analysis and Goal Setting

  • Utilize data and benchmarks to set achievable goals and manage performance.
  • Oversee day-to-day management toward regional pair and mentor support goals, using data tools and a mobile texting platform to increase program participation.
  • Guide Program Managers to use data to track progress towards individual and grade team goals, identify necessary interventions to increase success, and identify pairs that need additional coaching or support.
  • Develop and integrate data management tools to enhance team effectiveness and longitudinal awareness.


Org-Wide Collaboration and External Partnerships

  • Collaborate with the National Program Team and Regional Office on strategic Post-Secondary Program initiatives and resources.
  • Work with group of peer PDs and other departments to aggregate and share best practices and strategies across sites and team members.
  • Participate and lead professional development opportunities for post-secondary team across NYC, Chicago and the Bay Area.
  • Work with the NYC 12th grade team to lead transition from high school to post-secondary program and enroll pairs in program.
  • Foster partnerships with local colleges, alternative pathway and gap year programs to establish regional partnerships and lead the aggregation and management of post-secondary opportunities and listervs.
  • Support iMentor organization-wide initiatives, requiring occasional evening and/or weekend events.


Qualifications

  • 10+ years of relevant work experience preferred, 7+ required, including at least 4 years of staff management experience in the college success or youth development field.
  • Eye toward strategy and cross-team collaboration for regional impact.
  • Entrepreneurial, resourceful and persistent with demonstrated success managing and inspiring individuals and teams toward ambitious, measurable results.
  • Strong preference for an individual with previous teaching experience and/or coaching professionals in an educational setting.
  • Experience and fluency in the goals and best practices of the College Access and Success field
  • Exceptional communication, presentation and interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with a wide range of people.
  • Experience implementing systems and able to proactively identify needs, think through options and intervene when necessary.
  • Able to balance programmatic fidelity with regional goals and implementation needs.
  • Proven ability to motivate and engender buy-in regarding programmatic outcomes.
  • A strong preference for experience working with historically under-served youth and under-resourced communities.
  • Ability to operate within a defined system or model, yet demonstrate appropriate problem-solving skills and creativity.
  • Skilled in quantitative analysis (reporting, forecasting), planning, and project management.

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory fingerprinting and criminal background check, conducted by the Division of Human Resources at the NewYork City Department of Education.
