iMentor builds mentoring relationships that empower students in low-income communities to graduate high school, succeed in college, and achieve their ambitions. Students work with their mentors one-on-one, in-person and online, to develop strong personal relationships, nurture a college aspiration, navigate the college application process, and build critical skills that lead to college success. In New York City, iMentor partners with public schools to ensure every student in the schools receives a mentor. iMentor also provides its curriculum, technology, and best practices to help nonprofits run effective programs in the iMentor model. Position Overview
iMentor is seeking an experienced fundraising professional to drive individual giving with a primary focus on our volunteer base as donors. Reporting to the Director of Development, iMentor NYC, the Associate Director of Individual Giving will work to connect the direct service work of New York City to the funding environment and help translate the impact of iMentor’s programming to garner new donors. The ideal candidate will be an active listener and engaging storyteller, able to build authentic connections with current and prospective supporters. S/he will carry an entrepreneurial spirit, a track record of relationship development, the ability to create a tailored pitch, and be excited to work in partnership with our Volunteer Engagement Team and Program staff to ensure that philanthropic giving is part of the life cycle of the mentor experience. The Associate Director of Individual Giving will play a critical role in growing individual income to be a sustainable revenue source for iMentor, implementing a diverse set of strategies from securing major gifts to overseeing campaigns to building out iMentor’s base of small, grassroots donations from volunteers.

Responsibilities
  • Drive toward annual goals for individual giving and assisting with the overall fundraising goal.
  • Implement strategies that increase the number of mentors who donate to iMentor NYC, leveraging best practices in converting volunteers to financial supporters .
  • Raise $450,000 through Mentor Giving initiatives with Champions Circle, iMentor Challenge and the Champions Benefit.
  • Develop and implement donor stewardship strategies, ideally converting first time donors to annual contributors .
  • Build a network of supporters to solicit new individual funders; own a portfolio of 250-300 individual donors
  • Devise and execute a stewardship and communications plan that engages supporters and stakeholders, leveraging stories of mentor-mentee pairs, iMentor NYC’s impact, and the post-secondary success narrative across the organization.
  • Conceptualize and plan events for project-based fundraising
  • Build relationships and liaise with key departments (R&E, Platform, Program) within iMentor to aggregate information on the mentor community.
  • Identify and build partnerships for in-kind services, sponsorship, corporate matching .
  • Host our largest mentor-driven fundraiser event and secure new host committee members.

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in individual giving with demonstrated success making at least five-figure asks.
  • Displays a passion and track record for relationship building, creating buy-in and inspiring others to engage in mission-driven work.
  • Demonstrated project management experience, excellent organization skills, and a keen eye for detail throughout fundraising ventures.
  • Experience with Salesforce or similar CRM platform.
  • Enthusiastic and eager to refine fundraising pitches, solicit donations and approach high-level contacts.
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills with the ability to articulate clear, persuasive, and concise thoughts.
  • Strong contributor within team environments and a driver of organizational culture.
  • Maintains an entrepreneurial approach to their work and can work autonomously both internally and externally.
  • Deep commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion and aligned in thought and action with iMentor’s values.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory fingerprinting and criminal background check, conducted by the Division of Human Resources at the New York City Department of Education.
