About iMentor

iMentor builds mentoring relationships that empower students in low-income communities to graduate high school, succeed in college, and achieve their ambitions. Students work with their mentors one-on-one, in-person and online, to develop strong personal relationships, nurture a college aspiration, navigate the college application process, and build critical skills that lead to college success. Since 1999, iMentor has connected 13,000 students with mentors. This year, iMentor is serving 269 mentor-mentee pairs in the Bay Area at 2 schools, and 6,500 more nationwide through our direct service programs and in partnership with local nonprofits in over 16 cities. We will be growing to serve 600 pairs in the next year.

Position Overview

iMentor seeks a resourceful individual with clear communication skills, interest in customer service, attention to detail and a “can-do” attitude to provide event logistics support, ultimately ensuring high quality orientations and training for potential mentors in San Jose/Sunnyvale area. Reporting to the Director of Corporate and Community Engagement and working closely with Volunteer Managers, Event Assistants must have a sincere commitment to professionalism and be excited by working in a fast-paced environment. Event Assistants will join a high energy and hardworking iMentor staff team, passionate about helping more first-generation college students graduate high school college-ready and succeed in college. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Event Assistants may have the following roles and responsibilities. Training will be provided for all duties listed:
  •          Prepare resource materials for events and transport light equipment/materials to event sites
  •          Assist with setup and breakdown of small to large scale iMentor events at various venues throughout the San Jose/Sunnyvale area
  •          Assist with ordering and serving food to event participants
  •          Document event activities with camera equipment
  •          Support iMentor staff in facilitating portions of event activities


Qualifications

 

·         Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in teams; knowledge of customer service

·         Resourceful, self-motivated, and able to work independently yet know when to ask for help

·         Must be responsible, trustworthy, and detail oriented

·         Able to multitask in a fast-paced environment

·         Ability to lift and transport light supplies

·         Able to commit to regular evening schedule

·         Familiarity with South Bay areas a plus

·         Must have valid driver’s license and access to a car

·         High school degree required


 

Additional Details

  •          Compensation: $13/hour. Travel by car throughout San Jose/Sunnyvale area sites is required.
  •          Work schedule: Part-time, up to 16 hours per week, starting in May 2017 and going through September 2017. Event Assistants must be available Monday-Thursday from 4-8:00 PM, and will be scheduled for 2-3 evenings per week.
  •          Location Placement: San Jose/Sunnyvale
  •          Employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory fingerprinting and criminal background check, conducted by our vendor, GlobalHR.
