iMentor builds mentoring relationships that empower students in low-income communities to graduate high school, succeed in college, and achieve their ambitions. Students work with their mentors one-on-one, in-person and online, to develop strong personal relationships, nurture a college aspiration, navigate the college application process, and build critical skills that lead to college success. In New York City, Chicago, and the Bay Area, and Baltimore, iMentor partners with public schools to ensure every student in the schools receives a mentor. iMentor also provides its curriculum, technology, and best practices to help nonprofits run effective programs in the iMentor model.

Position Overview
iMentor Baltimore is seeking its founding Associate Director of Development (ADoD) join our team! Reporting directly to the Executive Director, they will join a growing development function to co-create and execute a comprehensive development strategy to meet fundraising goals across diverse revenue streams, with a goal of raising $500,000 in Baltimore’s founding year and subsequently up to $2 million in year 2023.   

Alongside the Executive Director, the Associate Director will cultivate and lead key relationships with individuals, mentors, corporations, and institutions, building new relationships for iMentor in the philanthropic landscape and funding sources. This person will support the Executive Director as we build out our Board of Directors, specifically guiding the board on fundraising strategies, and lead on board stewardship. The ADoD will work with the National Development team to align the region around best practices for development, while also sharing new ideas, educating others across both the regional and National teams, and improving the success of development efforts org-wide. They will drive the fundraising calendar and prepare resources to support successful fundraising outcomes.  

This role will be critical to iMentor's ability to raise critical funds that will sustain the organization and expand its impact over the long-term. The ideal candidate will have experience fundraising across multiple revenue streams, strong business development instincts, and a deep understanding of the philanthropic landscape in Baltimore. They will also have an understanding of the Baltimore education landscape and knowledge of the student population along with demonstrated success cultivating lasting relationships and making multi-figure asks.

Responsibilities 
  • In collaboration with Executive Director, co-create a comprehensive development strategy for the region, and execute on that strategy 
  • Cultivate and lead key relationships with individuals, foundations, and institutions  
  • Support the Executive Director in board leadership by assisting in the cultivation of new members and providing guidance to existing members on fundraising strategy  
  • Generating board reports and data for quarterly board meetings  
  • Recruit Young Executive Board (YEB); facilitate, and engage YEB in fundraising strategy, events and quarterly meetings  
  • Along with ED, develop and steward a major gifts pipeline  
  • Primary grant writer; maintains grant writing and reporting calendar 
  • Stewardship of foundation partners
  • Lead corporate partnerships and corporate giving with Director of Mentor Engagement 
  • Lead mentor giving strategy - work with the Manager of Mentor Community and Young Executive Board to activate mentor community 
  • Conduct high-level prospect research (individual donors, corporate giving) to create new relationships in the philanthropic landscape and diversify funding sources  
  • Co-construct a stewardship and communications plan that engages supporters and activates new funders 
  • Serve as region lead on funder database administration
  • Work with the National Development team to understand our best practices and extend them to the region  
  • Serve as the regional development expert, leading the rest of the team and program to understand their roles in development for iMentor Baltimore  
  • Support iMentor organization-wide initiatives, requiring occasional evening and/or weekend events

Qualifications
  • Six (6) or more years of development experience across multiple revenue streams  
  • Track record of securing national funds or grants in the multi-figure range or higher 
  • MUST be organized and comfortable with co-creating long-range fundraising strategy  
  • Passionate about mission-driven work and a commitment to students 
  • Must have experience leading development strategy implementation 
  • Excited by external relations and engaging with donor across all income levels  
  • Experience working with a board of directors  
  • Demonstrates innovation, flexibility, adaptability and accustomed to finding new ways to pitch an organization  
  • Effectively persistent, patient, and consistent  
  • Can quickly craft pitches that are persuasive, timely, and appeal to individual funders 
  • Experience executing fundraising events and in-person engagements 
  • Understanding about development budgets 
  • Experience with database management  
  • Demonstrated alignment with iMentor's mission, values, and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Views differences between individuals (race, gender, age, cultural heritage, physical ability, education, beliefs, and lifestyle) as an asset and demonstrates an appreciation of the diversity across the iMentor community
  • Bachelor’s degree required 
  • Our organization works in partnership with district public schools across the country. In doing so we must meet all compliance requirements of those districts
