            Position Overview

            iMentor is seeking a Director of Marketing & Communications (DMC) to help steward and amplify iMentor’s institutional voice and visual identity. They will lead the production of print and digital publications and collateral for iMentor at both the national and regional level, with the goal of expanding and deepening relationships with the organization’s key audiences, including students, mentors, educators, donors and thought leaders in the field of post-secondary readiness. The DMC will provide leadership on design and brand fidelity, supporting internal collaborators throughout the organization on materials and digital design development, as well as building the capacity of staff across the organization to leverage our brand and amplify our mission and program. training. The ideal candidate will bring five to seven (5 to 7) years of professional experience with at least three (3) years of communications or marketing experience. The DMC will have exposure to and experience with graphic design and be able to make confident recommendations that will guide the visual elements of both digital and print products. This candidate will bring creative energy to iterate and execute projects from idea generation to post-production. Reporting to the Managing Director of Communications, the DMC should be proactive, timeline oriented, and a strong writer and visual story teller.

            Responsibilities

            Production and Relationship Management

            • Co-create, lead and implement marketing communications strategy and project manage campaigns from collaborative idea generation to post-production
            • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to gather and generate ideas for organization wide campaigns in the production, design and content creation for print and online material for all internal collaborators, including regional offices, research and evaluation, volunteer recruitment and development
            • Lead content and collateral development for iMentor’s website, print and digital media, executive communications and marketing materials (including, but not limited to, the annual report, volunteer recruitment materials, and donor stewardship materials)
            • Lead “client” facing work with colleagues in national and regional offices with the goal of establishing and maintaining durable relationships, proactively identifying needs, and building the communications capacity of colleagues and teams across geographies
            • Manage iMentor’s network of advertising, graphic design and other marketing communications vendors including managing existing and forging new relationships


            Content Development

            • Ensure that our commitment to diversity and equity is clear to our external stakeholders and that challenges and success of our students are communicated with cultural attunement, respect, inclusiveness and a strengths-based perspective
            • Manage iMentor’s editorial and production calendars in keeping with organizational and department priorities, which would include project scoping, planning and management; editing and revisions; and delivery of high-quality final products
            • Oversee and curate iMentor’s Blog, soliciting stories from across the organization and share the written stories of our “pairs” (mentors and mentees) to inspire our supporters by sharing mentorship experiences
            • Gather data and information to update core materials for our 3+ existing regions
            • Write, design and project manage an annual report in collaboration with national and regional teams


            Training and Capacity Building

            • Iterate and create internal style guides and best practices, while strengthening existing guidelines to graphic and visual collateral
            • Create and improve quick guides to marketing communication per audience (staff, students, mentors, donors)


            Qualifications

            • Five to seven (5 to 7) years of professional experience and at least three (3) years of specific marketing or communications in areas such as nonprofit communications, corporate marketing, CSR, political campaign planning and execution, publishing, or advertising
            • Proven project leader and planner with a keen eye for the details; managing others to success; able to move tasks and projects across complex departmental structures
            • Working knowledge of design software, including Adobe Creative Cloud, In Design, Photoshop and Illustrator
            • Experience managing consultants and vendors, including graphic designers, printers, web designers, and photographers
            • An exceptional written and verbal communicator, with a knack for weaving program data and information into captivating stories with great interpersonal and public speaking skills; confident communicator to large groups of professionals with a track record of being a compelling, effective presenter and trainer
            • Demonstrated relationship building experience; someone who can listen, process and reconcile needs and demands, and who is comfortable with building consensus
            • Experience working on targeted marketing campaigns, and a solid understanding of the nuances between fundraising, advocacy, awareness, and recruitment; demonstrated ability to think strategically about different goals, content, and messaging approaches with an eye for graphics and visuals
            • Thinks proactively and strategically about the products that others need to do their jobs and achieve goals, and takes the initiative to deliver
            • A passion for issues of higher education equity and access, and/or youth development with keen cultural attunement to communicate the work of organization, challenges and success of our students with respect, inclusiveness and strengths-based perspective
