The Indigenous Environmental Network is seeking a National Pipelines Organizer to develop and implement a strategic campaign across Turtle Island to shut down and phase out fossil fuels. The ideal candidate is an organizer with experience coordinating grassroots campaigns to shut down pipeline projects, bringing local fights to a national level, and bringing the international movement to communities on the ground. They will have a strong analytical mind to pinpoint key moments and opportunities and the willingness to work with frontline communities. The Indigenous Environmental Network (IEN) is an alliance of grassroots Indigenous Peoples whose shared mission is to protect the sacredness of Mother Earth from contamination and exploitation by strengthening, maintaining, and respecting traditional teachings and natural laws. The candidate must be able demonstrate knowledge of Indigenous cultural lifeways, spirituality and values.
Job Overview
IEN’s current plan looks to build out its current pipelines program potentially targeting the fossil fuel sector, as well as other strategic focuses as needed. This position directly reports to the Keep it in the Ground Lead Coordinator, and also works closely with IEN’s Program Director.
The position is a full-time salaried position and remote-based with occasional travel to IEN’s Headquarters in Bemidji, MN, and other travel as assigned. All new employees are subject to a 90-day probationary period, whereupon completion of an evaluation will be conducted. Full employment status officially begins upon completion of this probationary period and full benefits will be set up at that time as well.
Responsibilities and Duties:

Communicate regularly with supervisor and team to give updates on work, including attendance to all-staff meetings, virtually and in-person.

Contribute to overall strategic visioning for the pipelines campaign, the Keep It In the Ground program, and IEN as a whole.

Collaborate with IEN’s other programs where needed (Indigenous Feminisms, Water Ethics, Indigenous Just Transition, and Climate Justice).

Support the IEN communications team in crafting infographics, social media, and other digital content to share pipelines campaign updates, and stories.

Maintain frequent contact and a good relationship with IEN frontline partners about their specific fights and needs.

Work with frontline partners to explore opportunities to achieve project and campaign success.

Conduct desktop and on the ground research for frontline pipeline fights, relevant policy, and any upcoming federal processes within state and federal governments.

Work with IEN affiliated members and partners to create replicable organizing models.

Create and participate in workshops or trainings with partners and volunteers to strengthen our pipelines campaigns.

Work with IEN affiliated members and partners to create replicable pipelines campaign models.

Occasionally represent the Indigenous Environmental Network in the media.
Qualifications

Must have personal knowledge and experience working with and in Indigenous communities.

Position Type: This is a full-time, salary position.
Salary: The salary range for this position is $60,000- $70,000 and comes with a competitive benefits package. Salary is commensurate with experience, skills, education, and training of the applicant.
Location: This position is remote based. Occasional travel to IEN’s Headquarters in Bemidji, MN is expected and other travel as assigned.
