Superior Handling Equipment manufactures industry-leading dock lifts and industrial lifting systems. We are seeking a hands-on Mechanical Product Engineer who thrives in a manufacturing environment and wants full ownership of product design, documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives.

This is a highly visible role working cross-functionally with manufacturing, quality, purchasing, sales, and executive leadership.


Key Responsibilities

Product Design & Development

  • Design components, sub-assemblies, and finished equipment using 3D & 2D Software
  • Create and control engineering drawings, BOMs, procedures, and work instructions
  • Lead new product development and contribute to patentable innovations
  • Drive product improvements to increase performance, quality, and cost efficiency

Manufacturing & Operations Support

  • Provide hands-on technical support to shop floor teams
  • Improve manufacturability, tooling, and production processes
  • Assist with facility layout and capital equipment implementation

Quality & Supplier Collaboration

  • Define product and component requirements for suppliers
  • Support QA with testing standards and compliance to ISO processes
  • Investigate field/service issues and track trends to identify root causes

Cross-Functional Support

  • Provide technical support to Sales and Business Development
  • Participate in strategic and operational planning initiatives
  • Promote and model safe work practices

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 5+ years of product design experience in a manufacturing environment (preferred)
  • Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks (3D modeling, assemblies, drawings)
  • Experience with 2D drafting software (DraftSight or similar)
  • Hands-on knowledge of welded assemblies, hydraulic systems, and electrical controls
  • Strong understanding of engineering document control and revision processes
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Office 365)
  • Self-starter with the ability to manage projects independently

Preferred Skills

  • Experience working within ISO Quality Systems
  • Strong problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities
  • Experience driving cost reduction and process improvement initiatives
  • Comfortable working in both office and shop-floor environments

Work Environment

  • Combination of office-based design work and active manufacturing floor support
  • Occasional travel to suppliers or customer sites may be required
  • Must follow and promote all company safety standards
