Jord is looking for a full-time Senior Microbiologist who will be responsible for support of early-stage discovery and late-stage product development. The Senior Microbiologist will work under the supervision of the VP Lab Operations and New Product Development and will lead technical projects in support of our product discovery and delivery pipeline. Jord’s teams are highly cooperative, and this role will require cross-team collaboration, including with the lab operations, data science, and crop testing teams.

Key Responsibilities: 

• Lead and manage technical projects including contribution to execution of lab procedures such as: culture a variety of microorganisms using specified lab procedures and methods, prepare samples, perform biological assays and phenotypic characterizations according to laboratory procedures and methods when needed 

• Develop, validate, and implement novel methods for microbial screens without existing standard protocols 

• Support Intellectual Property and/or Regulatory filing requirements for product leads 

• Record data and results, track progress in project management software, collaborate with data team members on analyses 

• Continuously learn and expand skills concomitant with Jord’s growth  

Qualifications: 

• Master’s degree in microbiology or related field with 3+ years of relevant work experience; or a Bachelor’s degree with 6+ years of relevant work experience  

• Proven product-focused microbial technology development experience 

• Deep technical knowledge and hands-on experience in microbial cultivation and assay development   

• Strong project management skills with outstanding self-organization, drive for excellence and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously 

• Experience in interfacing with regulatory experts to create required documents for registration 

• Familiarity with patent creation and prosecution 

• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal teams, clients, and external partners 

• Ability to break down technical problems, analyze root causes, and develop innovative solutions
