About BRAC and the Fund
BRAC is the world’s largest and most impactful NGO, founded in Bangladesh and operating in more than 20 countries across Asia and Africa. To meet the urgency of today’s global challenges and to harness bold philanthropic capital, BRAC International is establishing a catalytic fund designed to scale BRAC’s impact nimbly and sustainably.
Unlike a traditional endowment, the Fund will mobilize transformational investments and long-term philanthropic commitments from leading individuals, families, foundations, and institutions to advance BRAC’s boldest initiatives and concurrently onward invest in priority opportunities to break barriers and scale impact over the next twenty years, to move National development indicators forward expeditiously in a set of priority countries.
Position Overview
The Director will serve as the chief strategist, architect, and partnership builder of the Fund, under the global leadership BRAC USA CEO and the BRAC International Executive Director, Shameran Abed. This role offers a unique opportunity for a seasoned fundraising leader to design and drive a global campaign of significant scale for an international NGO that truly does development differently.
The Director will lead fundraising strategy development, donor engagement, and campaign execution while cultivating relationships with the world’s most influential philanthropists and new actors in the philanthropy space. The role requires exceptional executive presence, entrepreneurial leadership, ambition, and demonstrated experience in large-scale fundraising and revenue growth.
This role is US-based, ideally in New York, though flexible for the right candidate, with regular travel to global philanthropic hubs.
This is a full-time position; BRAC is also open to consulting arrangements with significant level of effort.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Serve as the chief strategist and architect of the Fund architecture.
- Develop a multi-year vision, revenue model, and case for support that resonates with principal and transformational level donors.
- Partner closely with the CEO, Board Chair, and senior BRAC leaders to ensure alignment with organizational priorities.
Fundraising & Donor Engagement
- Develop and lead a multi-year global fundraising strategy focused on principal and transformational gifts.
- Personally lead the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of a portfolio of ultra-high-net-worth individuals, foundation, and institutional donors.
- Serve as a visible and compelling ambassador for the Fund at international donor convenings, boardrooms, and high-profile philanthropic forums.
- Oversee and drive fundraising efforts targeting approximately $1B in campaign commitments over five years and reaching $2B over the life of the Fund.
Campaign Execution
- Design and lead the launch and execution of the Fund’s campaign, including messaging, donor engagement strategies, and campaign milestones.
- Build and steward a coalition of philanthropic champions and advisors to expand BRAC’s reach into new donor networks.
- Ensure campaign discipline through performance tracking, outcome reporting, and ongoing strategic refinement.
Management & Collaboration
- Operate as a senior individual contributor, supported by fundraising staff across BRAC affiliates (US, Europe, and GCC) and BRAC International.
- Own and manage day-to-day administrative tasks like scheduling, travel logistics, Salesforce, and donation agreements/processing in collaboration with grants management and finance, Salesforce.
- Own and manage the Fund’s operating budget, including travel, donor events, and outside consultants or vendors.
- Coordinate across BRAC USA, BRAC Europe, and GCC affiliates to avoid duplicated or conflicting outreach to the same donors.
- Collaborate with leadership, program teams, and external partners to align donor commitments with strategic impact priorities.
- Provide regular reporting and accountability to the CEO, Board Chair, and relevant governing bodies.
Scope & Complexity
- Global fundraising remit spanning multiple countries and donor markets.
- Focus on transformational gifts.
- High degree of autonomy and strategic decision-making authority.
- Frequent engagement with senior executives, board members, and external stakeholders.
- Collaborating across a large ecosystem to leverage contributions as needed.
Qualifications & Experience
- A degree in a related field, certification as a philanthropic advisor ideal.
- 20+ years of progressive fundraising leadership experience.
- Demonstrated success securing gifts and commitments at the $25M–$50M+ level.
- Experience leading or playing a senior role in large-scale campaigns and complex global fundraising initiatives.
- Deep networks or proven experience to establish and create opportunity within high-level philanthropic and foundation communities, with credibility among ultra-high-net-worth donors.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to design, launch, and adapt ambitious fundraising strategies in a dynamic environment.
- Exceptional communication skills, executive presence, and ability to inspire diverse global stakeholders.
- Ability to operate with a high degree of autonomy as a senior individual contributor, while collaborating effectively with fundraising staff across BRAC USA, BRAC Europe, GCC, and BRAC International.
- Comfort operating with ambiguity and complexity in a matrixed, global organization.
- Proficiency with donor CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce), Google Suite, and MS Office.
- Strong commitment to BRAC’s mission of ending poverty and advancing equity worldwide.
Compensation & Benefits
The salary range for this position is [$175,000 – $250,000], commensurate with experience, plus a competitive benefits package aligned with international nonprofit executive leadership standards.
