DATA SCIENTIST

ABOUT THIS ROLE
The Data Scientist is responsible for overseeing the collection, storage and interpretation of data for Churchome. Their duties include sifting through data points to create organized categories, comparing data points to current organization processes and writing reports outlining predictions or proposals. The Data Scientist will analyze large amounts of raw information to find patterns that will help improve the organization and our ability to serve and reach our community and the world. This role will be highly analytical with a knack for analysis, math and statistics. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are essential for interpreting data. This involves a passion for machine-learning and research. The goal will be to help the organization analyze trends to make better decisions.
The Data Scientist must be a forward-focused, team player with a faith-filled attitude. The role reports to The Chief of Strategy.
The Data Scientist will contribute towards the organization's objectives to make data informed decisions so that we can tell the story of Jesus in efficient and effective ways, by performing the following responsibilities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Define, invent, and deliver behavioral and human labeled metrics which accurately measure the satisfaction and success of our programs and services
Research, analyze, and decide between various sampling strategies which accurately reflect user perception
Make independent decisions for the team and handle difficult tradeoffs
Translate strategy into plans that are clear and measurable, with progress shared out monthly to stakeholders
Partner effectively with program management, engineers, and other areas of the business
Develop project plans, user acceptance test plans and communication plans for knowledge transfer to end-user.
Document business processes and flows in Visio, graph.io or similar tool.
Manage projects according to the processes and standards according to industry best practices
Work on state-of-the-art large-scale data analytics and machine learning projects
Design and develop data science pipeline using PySprak, Scala, SQL, etc for parallel processing
Drive predictive analytics from time series and GIS based data points
Help define the analytical direction and influence the direction of the associated engineering and infrastructure work.
Articulate business questions and use mathematical techniques to arrive at an answer using data. Translate analysis results into business recommendations.
Partner with internal stakeholders on projects to identify and articulate opportunities, see beyond the data to identify solutions that will raise the bar for decision making.
Extract actionable insights from broad, open-ended questions
Adapt machine learning and data mining algorithms to solve problems across several teams
Use quantitative analysis and the presentation of data to see beyond the numbers and understand what can improve our processes, programs and services
Lead projects with hands-on analysis and modeling, drawing from multiple analytical methods to choose the right tool and right level of complexity appropriate for the challenge.
Engage broadly with the organization to identify, prioritize, frame, and structure complex and ambiguous challenges, where advanced analytics projects or tools can have the biggest impact.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, Economics, Engineering, Statistics, Operations Research, Qualitative Social Science or another related degree.
3+ years of Data or Machine learning Science experience working on highly complex problems in a dynamic setting
Strong programming skills, especially in Scala or Python with 3+ years of relevant experience in a programming intensive role.
3+ years of experience developing applications in PHP, Java, C++, Python, SQL, R
Knowledge/Skills:
Data architecture with privacy and security as a foundation
Strong verbal and written communication, attention to detail, and organization
Highly motivated and able to work independently as well as in a team environment
Comfortable working in a fast-paced and demanding setting
Ability to quickly learn and master new technology
Proven track record of developing and deploying algorithms for a production-ready recommendation, data mining or prediction systems using languages and big data platforms such as Scala, Python, Java, Spark, Presto, and Hive
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to present data in a visual format and explain the insights clearly and concisely
Experience with data visualization tools such as DOMO and Tableau
Highly motivated, organized, self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment
Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with statistical testing such as A/B, multivariable, and Bayesian testing
Demonstrated capacity to develop innovative solutions, systems and products to support company objectives.
Ability to effectively communicate business issues and needs at a senior leadership level and how technology supports those requirements.
Demonstrated ability to serve as a technical authority within the organization and with customers.
Experience managing projects or customer relationships of critical importance.
Demonstrated ability to learn and immediately apply new programming languages, techniques and technologies
