We are looking for an intelligent and driven Corporate Controller to join our team.   As the Controller, you will be a key contributor and leader for the financial operations of our rapidly growing company. You will be responsible for providing technical accounting expertise, improvement of financial processes, and development of a high performing accounting team. You must be a hands-on, roll up your sleeves type of manager and should enjoy a fast-paced, start-up environment. The position requires strong financial, accounting and management skills, a strong business sense and the ability to understand the big picture while being detail oriented.

 

The position will report to the SVP of Finance & Chief Accounting Officer and will be required to reside within a commutable distance of our South San Francisco office. ALX Oncology Inc. follows a hybrid work model (i.e., part-time in South San Francisco office with flexibility to work part-time remotely).

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Manage all areas of accounting, including but not limited to month-end close, accounts payable, payroll, taxes, and related internal reporting
  • Oversee the preparation of quarterly and year-end SEC filings (10-Q and 10-K), including financial and business sections, risk factors, footnotes, MD&A, iXBRL tagging, and management review
  • Ensure compliance with all SEC, GAAP, FASB rules and regulations and corporate policies
  • Design, implement, and maintain internal control processes in accordance with SOX 
  • Assist SVP of Finance to develop FP&A function to support a growing organization
  • Prepare and manage monthly and annual operating budgets
  • Work closely with the business to properly account for collaborations and other strategic transactions
  • Implement and customize financial systems, as needed
  • Continually evaluate opportunities to drive greater efficiencies and effectiveness in the monthly and quarterly accounting close process while ensuring a balanced workload within the organization
  • Develop, manage, and mentor a top tier team that proactively drives continuous improvement and works with a collaborative mentality
  • Manage the relationship with external auditors and own the successful completion of the year-end audit
  • Lead the preparation of annual statutory financial statements for management review and timely filings
  • Create and maintain SEC and statutory reporting calendar, coordinate key timelines and deliverables, and work collaboratively with various business partners to ensure timely, accurate, and complete SEC and statutory filings
  • Other duties, as assigned

 

Requirements:

 

  • 10+ years in related experience, biotech experience required
  • Big 4 CPA with a bachelor’s degree in finance / accounting required
  • Strong knowledge in SEC Reporting and US GAAP
  • Strong written, interpersonal & communication skills
  • Experience with various financial systems, preferably NetSuite and Coupa
  • Ability to manage a complex set of objectives and team goals in a fast-paced environment
  • Impeccable analytical and organizational skills
  • Ability to work closely with a senior management team
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)

 

 

Salary Range:  $220,000-$260,000
