The Head of Human Resources will report to the CFO, but will work closely with all of the senior leadership team. We seek a team member who wants to be fully integrated into every aspect of the company from research and development to business execution. The ideal candidate will have a flexible leadership style with the ability to operate at a highly strategic level, with a roll-up sleeves attitude and capability. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in the life science industry supporting companies in growth mode. The successful candidate will be required to reside within a commutable distance of our South San Francisco office. ALX Oncology Inc. follows a hybrid work model (i.e., part-time in South San Francisco office with flexibility to work part-time remotely).

 

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Partnering with department heads and business functions to align the company’s current and future organizational structure with strategic corporate objectives.
  • Able to translate strategic business plans into HR strategic and operations plans.
  • Establish a physical presence, build relationships and trust with employees across functions and at all levels of the organization.
  • Establish the HR organization as a safe harbor for confidential HR matters and viewed as a respected leader on all HR related issues. 
  • Oversee benefits administration including compliance with appropriate state and federal legislation, obtaining competitive pricing, identifying new or alternative programs, and training staff on new benefits.
  • Manage external resources (recruiters, HR recruiting consultant, benefits providers) for cost-effective growth.
  • Ensure compliance with Human Resources-related laws and regulations including as a public company. Establish policies and procedures around core HR initiatives to ensure equitable and streamlined processes.
  • Develop and drive the overall talent acquisition strategy for the company, ensuring that the company hires best in class talent, who align with the ALX Oncology culture and values.
  • Oversee compensation (including Radford surveys), promotion and feedback practices to ensure equity (internally and vs. external benchmarks) to attract and retain the best talent.
  • Develop a comprehensive talent retention program inclusive of tangible (e.g. compensation, promotion) and intangible (e.g. training/coaching, scope realignment, resourcing) rewards.
  • Further develop and manage the performance evaluation process.
  • Manage onboarding experience to ensure colleagues are well-positioned for success in their new role.
  • Ensure a consistent focus on diversity and inclusion in all recruiting programs and processes and measure progress regularly.

 

Requirements:

 

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Human Resources, Business, Organizational Development with a certification in HR management.
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in Human Resources positions.
  • Experience in biotech and pharmaceutical environments preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in all Human Resources functional areas within a fast-paced, research and development focused environment.
  • Must be hands-on and capable of producing work with limited staff.
  • A proven track record of successfully managing employee relations issues, navigating, and leading the HR function through organization change.
  • The gravitas and experience to counsel and collaborate with executives and leaders in the company.
  • Demonstrated experience engaging with employees in a supportive manner; building strong internal relationships based on mutual respect and trust.
  • Ability to plan and oversee and execute HR operations processes.
  • Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills.
  • Highly responsible, self-motivated professional.
  • Strong leadership skills that include a desire for accountability.
  • Highly collaborative working style with the ability to influence others.
  • Superior work ethic that includes working autonomously with an appropriate sense of urgency and accuracy.

Salary:  $225,000-$300,000
