POSITION SUMMARY:

ALX Oncology has multiple catalysts coming up in the next 12-18 months for its lead candidate, evorpacept following an exciting year in 2024 demonstrating positive data in HER2+ gastric cancer. Evoracept is currently being evaluated in 9 clinical trials across solid tumors and hematologic cancers.  In 2025, ALX Oncology will initiate trials of evorpacept combinations in HER2+ breast cancer, and in colorectal cancer. ALX Oncology recently introduced ALX2004, a novel EGFR ADC, and announced an IND filing would be complete by end of 1Q25. Across evorpacept and ALX2004, there are multiple milestones expected in 2026. ALX Oncology seeks a dynamic leader with a proven track record of success in key customer engagement and outstanding leadership skills to build and manage the Medical Affairs function. Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Alan Sandler, MD, you will provide medical insight to the organization and will oversee the development of Medical Affairs strategies across ALX Oncology programs. You will play a pivotal role in driving our medical strategy, engaging with top thought leaders, and collaborating cross-functionally to bring innovative solutions to patients with high unmet need.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Build and manage a Medical Affairs team to support product development, market access, and evolve Medical Affairs strategy.
  • Interact with key members of the medical community to assist in understanding current practice areas of interest, including identifying, developing, and maintaining effective and optimal relationships with Key Opinion Leaders and members of the medical community.
  • Build partnerships and relationships with the scientific and medical community to support ALX Oncology’s clinical programs.
  • Lead advisory boards to collect clinical insights from the medical community inform medical strategy.
  • Develop and execute KOL engagement plans to enable high-quality, impactful scientific engagement and education across key stakeholders.
  • Represent ALX Oncology at scientific conferences and meetings, engaging with KOLs, collating scientific insights, and providing meaningful updates to the leadership team.
  • Plan and deploy field-based medical team to grow and manage a successful KOL network.
  • Lead Medical Affairs strategy and project execution with CMO that support clinical development that include trial design and recruitment, early access initiatives, investigator-initiated research, publications, and presentations.
  • Ensure and oversee the development of clear and well-communicated medical strategies and plans that can be used to support patient access and improve patient outcomes.
  • Collaborate with Clinical to cultivate strategies to develop publication and presentation strategies and materials and oversee development of scientific content for medical communication and education initiatives.
  • Partner with Compliance and Legal to ensure appropriate systems and processes are in place to meet all regulatory/legal requirements related to Medical Affairs
  • Lead Medical Affairs in the clear communication of scientific data to various audiences.
  • Shape initial value and evidence strategy, leveraging insights from payors, patients, and physicians.
  • Manage Medical Affairs budget and effort allocation to ensure key activities are supported and executed according to timelines.
  • Participate in scientific, medical, regulatory review teams as necessary to further the clinical development of ALX Oncology’s pipeline programs.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • An advanced degree is required (MD, PhD, PharmD, MPH)
  • At least 10 years of experience in the pharma/biotech industry, and 5 years working in oncology.
  • Prior experience building a Medical Affairs team, and/or experience in a company that has transitioned molecules from an early- to late-stage development.
  • Proven ability to successfully network with subject matter experts.
  • Excellent verbal, presentation, and written communication skills

Salary: $350,000-$380,000 DOE
