Dawson Summer Initiative (DSI) offers summer academic programs for high-achieving middle school students from Boulder County and surrounding areas. 

For five weeks, our Teaching Assistants support our summer staff and “scholars” (ages 11-14) for our Leadership and Thematic sessions. This year, our Thematic session’s focus is Action! Designing Opportunities which will examine how we envision living our daily lives and our ability to start now to create change for the betterment of our planet.

 

DSI Mission Statement:

Dawson Summer Initiative is a unique, tuition-free program that provides enriching, intellectual opportunities for high-achieving public middle school students from Boulder County and surrounding areas. Committed to a dynamic and respectful environment, students meet and work collaboratively with similarly motivated and inquisitive peers, taking these lifetime experiences to high school and beyond. 

 

Responsibilities:

Teaching Assistants are responsible for daily tasks that involve general supervision and management of middle school students. This includes overseeing the students as they travel to and from their assorted activities throughout the day; offering in-class support as the students work on projects that involve presentation, technological and research skills; assisting with the daily program activities; and interacting positively with the scholars and staff.

Qualifications:

We are looking for Teaching Assistants who are highly organized, intelligent, and energetic and who can relate well to middle school students, maintaining authority with a respectful and caring manner. Our students cannot miss more than one day of the five-week program, and we ask the same of our staff. The dates of our program are June 2—July 3, 2025 and daily attendance is paramount. 

Location, Dates and Times for Staff:

Dawson Summer Initiative is held on the campus of Dawson School in Lafayette, Colorado. Teaching Assistants are required on campus Friday, May 30 for an initial staff meeting and Monday, June 2—Thursday, July 3, 2025, 8:30 a.m.—4:30 p.m. (excluding weekends). There will be NO Program on June 19.

Compensation:

The salary range for this temporary non-exempt position is $24.00 - $26.00 per hour. Compensation is commensurate based on previous work experience with DSI. This position is not eligible for benefits. Interested candidates please reach out to lmichael@dawsonschool.org.
