Dawson, a K-12 independent school of 505 students located east of Boulder on a beautiful 112-acre campus seeks an exceptional Summer Camp Health Clerk to assist and work with our Summer Camp Director.  This position plays a role in overseeing the health and well-being of approximately 365 campers and 60 staff members; acting as a liaison to parents, camp staff, and health providers. The person in this role must be kind, patient, caring, and love working with kids. 

 

 

The Summer Camp Health Clerk works weekdays (Monday - Friday), starting on May 15, 2025 through August 1, 2025.

Professional and Personal Qualifications

  • At least four years of college or post-high school work experience, preferably at least one year of experience within the healthcare industry

  • Must have a current First Aid/CPR certification

  • Must be willing to obtain any other certification and/or training sessions as required by the state

  • Experience in medication administration

  • Experience in recognizing common childhood illnesses

  • Experience talking to medical personnel and parents in person and on the phone

Duties/Responsibilities

 

  • Oversee all aspects of health care during the summer camp program

  • Talk to parents/guardians to obtain health and treatment information 

  • Review health history, health examination, immunization, allergy, and medication forms and records for all campers and staff, making sure that required consents are signed. Contact parents/guardians if important information is missing

  • Collect, safeguard, and administer medications for campers according to doctor’s written orders.  Ensure camper medications are returned at the end of summer camp

  • Guide and mentor staff of health conditions and the needs of campers in their care. Follow up to assure campers receive treatments and medications as directed

  • Implement procedures for dispensing routine medications and charting of all medication

  • Provide over-the-counter medicines to campers for illnesses such as colds, upset stomach, headaches, with  written approval from the parent/guardian

  • Administer basic first aid to campers and staff for things such as cuts, rashes, sprains, etc.

  • Creating and replenishing First Aid kits for program staff

  • Keep the Summer Camp Director informed of all cases of illness and/or injury for any camper or staff who needs emergency medical transportation and/or doctor’s care

  • Communicate all major health concerns to the Summer Camp Director

  • Maintain health records including, but not limited to; treatment logs, medication logs, accident/incident reports, and any required documentation for the State of Colorado

  • Submit completed injury and illness reports to the Summer Camp director immediately after each occurrence including routine medications and treatment. 

  • Organize health forms and prescription medications each week

  • Maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of health center treatment area and equipment

  • Maintain routine and emergency health procedures in consultation with the Summer Camp Director and in keeping with established guidelines 

  • Instruct program staff in their health responsibilities, specifically reviewing first-aid procedures most likely to occur in their areas of activity

  • Operate and maintain medical supplies and equipment

  • Inspect sanitation and safety practices throughout the camp at least weekly.  Submit written reports to the Summer Camp Director

  • Advise program staff on accommodations for special needs

  • Send written first-aid or illness reports home with campers

  • Make written recommendations for supply needs, changes in general procedures and about site hazards

  • Perform other duties to foster a cooperative climate and a smoothly operating camp

  • Participate in pre-camp and in-service training, attend staff meetings, and contribute to the planning and coordinating of the work of the program staff (i.e. safety training focusing on medical protocols and  issues)

  • Respect the confidential nature of all information pertaining to staff, volunteers, and campers

  • Assist in supervising campers at meals and all-camp activities

  • Collaborate with the Summer Camp Director and the Security team with decisions and communication on safety issues (i.e. lightning protocol).  Always adhere to all safety and security procedures. 

  • Present a positive image to campers, staff,  parents, and visitors through attitude, dress, and courtesy

  • Other duties as assigned (i.e. remove parking signs, hand out T-shirts, fill water bottles) 

 

The salary range for this full-time,non-exempt position is $1,300.00 to $1,600.00 per week. Compensation is commensurate with experience and relevant skills. This is a temporary position and is not eligible for benefits. Lunch is provided daily.
