SUMMARY:

 

 

The Maintenance Mechanic at SCU is an integral part of our Physical Plant team responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of our university's infrastructure and grounds. This role includes performing maintenance tasks and grounds work to uphold the appearance and functionality of our campus facilities. 

 

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Maintenance -

 

• Conduct routine maintenance and repair tasks on various university buildings, equipment, and systems.
• Ensure the timely completion of work orders and maintenance tasks.
• Perform preventive maintenance on equipment and systems to extend their lifespan.
• Collaborate with other maintenance staff to prioritize and schedule maintenance activities.

 

Grounds Work -

• Perform light grounds maintenance duties, including but not limited to mowing, weeding, planting, and leaf removal.
• Operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment such as lawn mowers, trimmers, and leaf blowers.
• Assist in landscaping projects, including planting flowers and shrubs, and maintaining irrigation systems.
• Monitor the condition of campus trees and report any concerns to the Physical Plant Director.
• Collaborate with the supervisor to plan and execute grounds improvement projects.

 

Equipment Operation –

• Operate and maintain various tools and equipment required for maintenance and grounds work.
• Ensure the safe and proper use of tools and equipment at all times.
• Perform regular inspections and maintenance on groundskeeping equipment.

 

Team Collaboration -

• Collaborate with other members of Physical Plant to ensure the overall functionality and appearance of the campus.
• Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to a positive working environment.

 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Proven experience as a maintenance mechanic or in a related field.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
• Proficiency in using maintenance tools and equipment.
• Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 pounds and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
• Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends as needed.

 

 

 

EMPLOYMENT TYPE:

 

 

This position is a temporary assignment intended to cover a leave of absence. However, there is potential for the position to become a regular placement.

 

 

 

ATTENDANCE:

 

 

Must be punctual and timely in meeting all requirements of performance, including, but not limited to, attendance standards and work deadlines; beginning and ending assignments on time; and scheduled work breaks, where applicable.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

 

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
