But what is the next big innovation in the caravanning and outdoor sector? That's what the Innovation Lab nexT of the Truma Group has been researching since it was founded in Munich in 2020. nexT finds and develops the latest technologies and solutions in line with the current and future needs of campers. Using agile methods, the quick-witted team explores needs and iteratively designs suitable solutions for the future of mobile living.

One area of focus for the nexT team today is to provide solutions to the electrified vehicle market. To lead this research in North America, Truma is searching for a Technology Expert to bring their knowledge of the electrification of recreational vehicles, both trailered and self-propelled. The ideal candidate will have profound knowledge of electrical battery storage, distribution and conservation of energy, and can transfer this knowledge into solutions for RV users. The Technology Expert should utilize different methods and tools to identify new technology, solutions, and to evaluate their possible business impact on our industry.

This role will engage globally with the nexT Lab in Europe while supporting communication of the local North American market, suppliers, research institutes, OEM, dealers and consumers.

Your Accountabilities in the Role:

  • Evaluation of Technologies, Product Ideas or Business Models based on a proven process with the objective to reach a Proof of Concept for viability
  • Collaboration with Innovation and Product Development Teams inside the Truma Group and Customers
  • Presentation and communication of complex topics to non-technical partners, stakeholders, and steering committees.
  • Develop plans for the design, build, and physical demonstration of new technologies for presentation to the Business Units and executive.
  • Building up of prototypes, gathering and documenting customer feedback for ongoing development.
  • Support transition of technologies from the nexT Lab to the Core Business.
  • Explore and drive new ideas within small teams (internally and externally).
  • Management and steering of external Development Partners.

Position Requirements:

  • Education: Requires a 4 year bachelor’s degree, in NPD, Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical), or an equivalent in a combination of education and experience.
  • Experience: 5+ years proven working experience in an NPD role, ideally in an OEM or Tier 1 automotive supplier in an electromechanical role.
  • Certifications: VOC; Agile; Scrum; Product Strategy; CAD/CAE
  • Functional Skills: Excellent planning, organization, prioritization, and project management skills, with a great attention to detail and accuracy; ability to manage large amounts of data and multiple priorities/projects accurately and within time constraints; strong time management skills are essential along with the ability to learn and apply enhanced supply chain best practice concepts.
  • Technology Skills: Knowledge of Microsoft Office is required, Project Management; Powertrain; Energy Storage/Supply; Physics and Thermodynamics. Thermo management of interior climate
  • Language Skills: Excellent verbal and written English communication skills, with an ability to communicate with all levels inside and outside the organization. Additional languages e.g., German, French are a plus
  • Leadership/Behaviors: Strong customer and quality of work focus and a sense of urgency is needed with the ability to build relationships and provide ongoing support to customers is also important. Strong influencing skills. Collaboration - Ability to work with multiple stakeholders. Critical thinking, Big-picture planning, Troubleshooting and problem-solving, Time and Team management.
