About the Job
As a member of the Nexant Utility Services, the Principal is responsible for providing professional engineering and services and support in the grid modernization strategy, planning, operation, maintenance, and analysis of our client’s electric facilities and assets. This role will have expert knowledge and experience in interpreting and applying engineering principles, advanced planning tools, industry practices, state-of-the-art solutions, and theories toward the completion of assignments involving a substantial degree of complexity. They will support and share their knowledge with other Nexant staff and support other projects when needed.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Provide professional engineering services and support in the research, planning, operation, maintenance, and analysis of client power grids. Although this position is focused on distribution systems, the ability to plan and analyze transmission systems is desirable.
• Develop advanced distribution analytical methods, requirements of software tools, and strategies for modernization
• Analyze compliance with regulatory, planning, operation, grid interconnection and maintenance standards and requirements
• Analyze the impacts on advanced technologies and solutions; and how utilities can prepare for the challenges
• Analyze energy economics of distributed energy resources
• Ensure that problem solutions are tailored to the customer’s business environment
• Write and present professional quality proposals and reports to clients
• Support necessary project management and administration duties to Nexant project managers
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
• BS in Electrical Engineering, MS or PhD preferred, with an electric power systems, simulation, and optimization focus or comparable
• 15 years of working experience in the electric utility industry
• Expert knowledge in problems related to power system planning and analysis
• Skilled in distributed energy resource integration and economics
• A deep understanding of distribution analysis methodologies
• Computer skills including commercial distribution planning tools, VBA, Matlab, Java, C++, blockchain, etc.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, and presentation skills at executive level
• Willingness to learn and operate in a strong team environment
• Excellent ability to work within schedules and meet deadlines
• Internal and external client support at the executive level
• Must be able to travel nationally up to approximately 30% of the time.
