The Principal position is a senior role at Nexant, with responsibilities to interact with senior management to achieve company goals for growth and profitability. The Principal position is instrumental in selling Energy & Chemical Advisory services for both single client engagements and multi-subscriber offerings. A Principal also has project oversight and some project management responsibilities, necessitating excellent organizational and communication skills. Nexant Principals are “subject matter experts” providing insights on the energy, chemical or allied industries to less experienced staff. Principals have excellent capacity to multi-task, motivate others, exercise good judgment and communicate with a wide variety of colleagues and clients.
Main Purpose of Job:
To lead key client relationships in Germany to develop and grow consulting sales/revenues. Generate opportunities, develop proposals, secure sales and lead profitable, high quality consulting engagements. Interact and build trust with senior managers and executives within the chemicals industry. Develop relationships with the financial services sector, especially private equity to win due diligence engagements.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Leading business development and project management for the German consulting and mergers & acquisitions advisory markets in Germany. Main sector focus will be chemicals.
• Identify opportunities to improve the effectiveness of Nexant clients’ business in Germany
• Take a lead position for sales generation in Germany’s chemicals consulting market.
• Work closely with Nexant’s London office to build strong, sustainable client relationships through industry insight, knowledge and experience.
• Develop and convert proposals for German chemical companies, banks, private equity firms, licensing companies, etc. for performing feasibility studies, due diligence engagements, market studies, technology assessments and other related projects.
• Primary geographic responsibilities will be in Germany but the role will also involve co-ordinating global engagements for German clients.
• On selected projects, act as project manager and effectively manage teams of junior and mid-level consultants to deliver high-quality consulting engagements.
Qualifications and Requirements:
• First class Bachelor’s degree in a subject relevant to the energy industry (for example chemical engineering, chemistry)
• Higher degree in relevant subject (masters, PhD) and/or MBA
• At least 10 years of experience within the chemicals or consulting industry with a leading industrial firm and/or management consultancy
• Excellent existing client relationships at senior level
• Strong project management skills
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills
• Proven ability to generate consulting revenue
• To be fluent in both English/German language, written and speaking
• Self-motivator with capability to generate professional services opportunities through application of deep industry insight.
• Ability to build and sustain strong client relationships with excellent listening and influencing skills.
