About the Job
Nexant Utility Services (UTS), a consulting business unit focused on providing research-based strategic advice, policy analysis, expert testimony, statistical analysis, economic modeling, and data collection services, is currently searching for qualified consultants to support its energy practice. Our clients span both public agencies and private utilities.

We are seeking a Senior Consultant to join the UTS Strategy & Planning group. Senior Consultants are leaders in our consulting practice that are expected to effectively manage project teams of Nexant staff that are often geographically distributed. Our Senior Consultants write clearly and compellingly with an emphasis on delivering high-quality reports, presentations, and other written communications to our clients. Senior Consultants in the S&P practice area are also effective speakers and present the findings of their work to our clients as well as at industry conferences. Senior Consultants write proposals for new projects and are expected to contribute to the business development of our consulting practice. Our practice area currently has a focus in utility demand-side management program strategy, planning, and evaluation. However, we increasingly bring our data analytics and market research expertise to bear in assisting utilities in other areas of their operations.  


Duties and Responsibilities 
  • Lead research and analysis projects
  • Manage complex analytical projects to meet project milestones and stay within established budgets 
  • Oversee analytical work of junior staff, as well as conducting analytical work as needed
  • Proactively identify and troubleshoot problems that arise during projects
  • Present analysis results and recommendations to clients
  • Ensure adherence to high standards in research methods, statistical approaches, and work products
  • Manage existing client relationships and build new client relationships
  • Provide mentoring and training to mid- and junior-level staff
  • Present at conferences and other networking events
  • Lead and contribute to proposal writing as new project opportunities are identified
  • Produce high-quality written reports
  • Line management of 1-3 junior staff members
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications 
  • Masters or Doctorate degree in a relevant field (i.e., economics, statistics, social and environmental sciences, mathematics, policy analysis, computer science, or public policy with a quantitative focus)
  • 5+ years of experience in an energy or public policy related field, preferably in a consulting environment
  • 3+ years of project management experience
  • Comprehensive knowledge of quantitative and qualitative energy or public policy related research and evaluation, statistical and non-statistical analysis, experimental design, and the ability to translate data into compelling report and presentation formats
  • Proven leadership in the field of energy efficiency and demand response evaluation, measurement & verification (Preferred)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of natural gas and/or electric utility industry operations and regulatory frameworks (Preferred)
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and multidisciplinary project teams, including members in remote locations
  • Experience and expertise with statistical analysis software such as Stata, R, SAS, SPSS, Excel, Access, or other data management software
  • Experience performing econometric modeling and manipulation of large datasets
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as client interface capabilities
  • Effective contributor to business unit-specific and corporate operational and management initiatives
  • Experience supervising junior staff by actively managing growth, providing in-the-moment coaching, and providing feedback
  • Desire to develop existing and new skills in a collaborative, fast-paced environment
  • Ability to travel approximately 10% of the time
