About the Job
Nexant is looking for an Intern who has an interest in performing economic analyses of distributed energy resources (DERs) such as rooftop PV-solar, distribution-connected battery energy storage systems, electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) and microgrids. Students who have successfully completed at least one year of graduate study in Electrical Engineering from an accredited program are encouraged to apply. The duration of the Internship is three months.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct research on various methodologies and tools used for economic analyses of DERs and microgrids.
- Develop tools using Excel, Visual Basic, Python or MATLAB for performing economic analysis
- Present the findings of the research in a written report
- Skills required:
o Experience using power system modeling and simulation software for loadflow, stability or economic analysis of power systems
o Working knowledge of technical characteristics of DERs such as battery storage, rooftop PV solar, EVSE, smart inverters and microgrids
o Experience in spreadsheet analysis using Excel and Visual Basic
o Knowledge in a high-level programming language (Matlab, Python, C++, etc.)
o Working knowledge of data analysis and database management tools
o Good communications and report-writing skills in English required
Qualifications
- Advanced Degree in Electrical Engineering/Power Engineering
- Completed coursework in power system analysis, power systems economics, energy markets
- Prior utility work experience is a plus
- Excellent written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and G-Suite is preferred
- Strong attention to details
- Highly organized with the ability to prioritize time-sensitive assignments
