About the Job
We are currently seeking a chemical engineer/senior analyst for Nexant’s Energy & Consulting Advisory Business Unit in San Francisco. The successful candidate will have relevant training in process design & system analysis, reaction kinetics, process simulation, equipment sizing and cost estimation, and techno-economic evaluation of complex chemical and energy systems. The successful candidate will have good analytical and problem solving skills; good written and oral communication skills; able to work independently but function well in a team environment; and comfortable in dealing with new and leading-edge technologies.

Duties and Responsibilities
Working with a Project Manager, the Engineer’s primary responsibilities would include:

Develop conceptual process plant design of advanced energy generation and chemical production systems including clean fossil and renewable energy (e.g, gasification, advanced gas clean up and biomass based power generation systems); advanced CO2 capture technology systems; engineering retrofitting existing power systems for carbon capture; solar thermal and PV system feasibility study; advanced hydrogen and liquid fuels production technology systems.
Perform process simulation, heat & material balances, utility requirement and equipment sizing calculations
Prepare process flow diagrams, piping & instrument diagrams, process description and cost estimation
Develop plot plan using AutoCAD
Conduct process trade-off analysis, optimization and overall techno-economic feasibility evaluation
Perform market analysis, and preliminary safety and environmental assessment as required
Prepare study report and help with presentation to the clients
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
B.S. or advanced degree in chemical engineering or equivalent
2 to 5 years related working experience
Strong proficiency in computer-aided process design simulation, engineering drawing and/or cost estimation software (i.e. AspenPlus, Hysys, Promax, GateCycle, ICARUS, AutoCAD), advanced Excel and Visual Basic
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Must be able to travel locally up to approximately 10% of the time.
