The Research Laboratory Scientist II is responsible for performing research and clinical diagnostic assay development duties for high complexity, laboratory-developed, microbiological, immunological, and molecular assays within a CLIA-accredited clinical diagnostic laboratory. This is an onsite, full-time position that reports to the Vice President of Research and Development.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of laboratory procedures utilizing microbiological, immunological, and molecular techniques, including IFA, ELISA, Western Blotting, Cultures, DNA and RNA extraction, quantitative PCR, and digital PCR to support internal R&D and externally funded research projects.
  • Design and plan experiments with limited direction from the Vice President of Research and Development
  • Perform assay development, optimization, and CLIA validation laboratory procedures with limited direction from the Vice President of Research and Development
  • Advanced assay troubleshooting experience and ability to execute under tight/unscheduled deadlines
  • Apply expertise with advanced molecular, microbiological, and serological techniques and procedures to appropriately interpret and report assay results. Concisely organize, tabulate, analyze, report, and document the assay results in a timely and professional manner
  • Ensure that reagents, supplies, and equipment are adequately maintained per company protocols
  • Work using established SOPs and worksheets
  • Prepare new worksheets, SOPs, plans, reports, and presentations
  • Understand and adhere to company and regulatory GDP, QC, and QA requirements
  • Develop and maintain relationships through effective and timely communication with supervisors and co-workers
  • Perform other duties as required

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree with a minimum of ten years, a Master of Science degree with a minimum of five years, or a Doctor of Philosophy degree with greater than two years of professional experience in biology, microbiology, immunology, chemistry, biochemistry, clinical laboratory science (CLS), or related field
  • Experience with BSL-2 and enhanced BSL-2 laboratory procedures, including BSL-2 biological sample handling, processing, and disposal
  • Excellent aseptic technique, precise pipetting skills, accurate recording of results, and ability to interpret scientific data
  • Advanced proficiency in molecular techniques including qPCR, digital/droplet digital PCR, DNA Extractions (manual and automated experience preferred)
  • Experience with RNA extractions, RT-qPCR, RT-ddPCR
  • Advanced proficiency in immunological techniques including ELISA, IFA, and Western Blot
  • Experience preferred with microbial and mammalian cell culture
  • Advanced proficiency with commonly utilized bioanalytical statistics
  • Strong command of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel
  • Excellent troubleshooting and critical thinking skills
  • Attention to detail, flexibility, and ability to multi-task at an advanced level
  • The ability to work independently and with a team
  • Excellent interpersonal, as well as oral and written communication skills
  • Self-motivation, a strong sense of accountability, willingness to participate in developing and maintaining a strong, positive, and supporting work climate
  • Clear vision required for equipment operation and data entry, analysis, and reporting
