Job Description: 

Climate United Fund, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (“Climate United”), is seeking a full-time Director of Accounting to oversee the management and strategic deployment of financial resources, including grants, investments, and cash flow. Reporting to the VP, Accounting & Reporting, the Director of Accounting will play a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient and effective utilization of funds to advance Climate United's mission of driving an equitable clean energy transition at scale. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • In concert with the Vice President of Accounting and Reporting create functional strategies and implement accounting policies and procedures that adhere to sound internal controls, GAAP, and risk management and grants management best practices 

  • Design an effective use of Intacct accounting software capabilities to capture transactions for optimum data reporting needs 

  • Hire and develop a team of accounting professionals, and direct the day-to-day operations and procedures of the accounting function, to include cash flow, revenue recognition, asset recordation, receivables risk management, accounts payable, payroll 

  • Oversee all month end/quarter end close functions, prepare financial statements, including cash flow statements, and internal budget to actual reports 

  • Oversee the preparation of all reconciliations, supporting schedules, and workpapers for audit and review purposes, and to support cash flow forecasting needs and federal grant draws 

  • Ensure the complete and timely completion of all annual tax filings and reports  

  • Plan the year-end close process and ensure a successful annual audit and required federal Single Audit 

  • Serve as internal/external point of contact for accounting related questions, and support the Vice President of Accounting with internal and external reporting needs and requirements 

  • Support the development of information needed to comply with federal grant reporting requirements and related grant terms and conditions 

  • Monitor and evaluate the accounting system, procedures, policies and other supporting processes to identify areas for improvement and optimization 

  • Coordinate with the Treasury, Compliance, and Investment teams to provide accurate financial reporting, strategic planning, and other reporting needs 

  • Support the Vice President of Accounting and Reporting, and other senior executives, in the annual budgeting process 

 

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, CPA or other related degree or certification preferred  

  • Proven experience managing a full-cycle accounting and financial reporting function, preferably in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization 

  • Grants management experience and familiarity with 2 CFR200 a significant plus 

  • Solid experience with Sage Intacct or other similar fund accounting software 

  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint and Word and strong analytical and problem-solving skills  

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate financial concepts to diverse audiences 

  • Strong organizational and leadership skills, to include managing and developing staff in a hybrid/remote basis and building cross-divisional relationships
