About the Role:
MWH Law Group LLP is hiring a Legal Billing Manager to support and manage the firm’s billing operations. This position plays a key role in ensuring accurate client invoicing, maintaining compliance with client guidelines, and overseeing accounts receivable processes. The ideal candidate will have strong legal billing experience, a proactive mindset, and the ability to work independently while collaborating with attorneys, leadership, and accounting staff.
The Legal Billing Manager will work closely with our long-standing billing professional to ensure smooth operations, with the opportunity for the role to expand as staffing and workflow evolve. Familiarity with legal billing software and openness to exploring new technologies is important to success in this role. As the legal industry continues to adopt AI and automation tools, we are looking for someone who brings fresh ideas and can help us evolve our billing processes over time.
What You'll Do:
- Manage daily billing operations and ensure timely, accurate, and compliant invoicing
- Review and finalize monthly client invoices and time records
- Submit invoices through various electronic billing platforms and troubleshoot rejections or appeals
- Monitor accounts receivable, track invoice payments, and follow up on outstanding balances
- Serve as a key resource to attorneys on billing best practices and complex billing issues
- Support client and matter setup in billing systems, including rate management and adherence to Outside Counsel Guidelines
- Collaborate with accounting on reconciliations, write-offs, and client reimbursements
- Prepare billing and collections reports for internal use
- Contribute to the development of Alternate Fee Arrangements (AFAs), rate analysis and pricing strategy initiatives
- Participate in financial audits, RFPs, and internal process reviews as needed
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive financial and client data
What We’re Looking For:
- At least 5 years of legal billing experience; prior experience with client guidelines and e-billing platforms required
- Familiarity with billing compliance requirements for Fortune 500 or insurance clients
- Ability to work independently with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and experience with legal billing software; Centerbase and NetDocs experience a plus
- Strong communication and time management skills
- Analytical thinker who can problem-solve and adapt to evolving systems and client needs
- Professional, collaborative, and tech-savvy
- Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience
