OVERVIEW OF ROLE OR HOW THE ROLE MAKES AN IMPACT 

 

The Product Manager is responsible for leading and driving category revenue to goal, range management, mix development, category exit and entry, SKU rationalization, profitability, and overall category health for the assigned product families and categories across existing Shade and Pet products. The PM will focus on converting consumer and market insights into growth strategies that deliver accretive sales and gross margin. The PM will identify unmet consumer needs and address those needs by managing new product development projects from concept generation through to launch. The PM will also lead the commercialization of existing and new product lines, both in current and new distribution.   

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES 

Financial Management  

  • Responsible for the overall revenue and profit growth targets for assigned retail and/or commercial categories in the Americas.  

  • Leverage an understanding of financial performance drivers to positively impact profit and loss (P&L) in the short and long term.  

  • Work cross-functionally to identify growth, operational efficiency, and cost savings opportunities across categories, without negatively impacting the consumer experience and delivering overall cost reduction targets.  

  • Serve as “CEO” of the assigned product categories.  

Portfolio & Product Life Cycle Management  

  • Responsible for portfolio management, mix development, packaging, SKU rationalization, and profitability across the assigned categories.  

  • Manage the product portfolio by making assortment decisions such as adding, growing, and exiting categories, sub-categories, or SKUs.  

  • Lead cross functional teams in the execution and delivery of project plans according to seasonal timelines and business priorities.  

  • Ensure products meet or exceed quality standards and consumer expectations.  

  • Work collaboratively across global regions and with Marketing, Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Trade, and Sales counterparts, both locally and globally  

Consumer Insights & New Product Development  

  • Responsible for supporting the global innovation roadmap by leading and executing new product development projects on time, on cost, and on specification.  

  • Develop deep knowledge of the target market, consumer, customer, and end user for the assigned categories.  

  • Validate critical decisions qualitatively and/or quantitatively with consumers or key stakeholders and apply the findings to ensure success in market.  

  • Support the global stage-gate process by completing necessary documentation and generating best practices.  

Strategic Growth Planning & Commercialization  

  • Responsible for using multiple sources of data to understand consumer and market trends to inform double digit YoY growth plans for assigned categories.   

  • Develop and implement strategies and projects to drive category growth in terms of market share, new users, usage frequency, and differentiating benefits.  

  • Create and deliver commercialization plans for categories, working collaboratively with Trade and Regional Marketing teams to ensure local relevance & global consistency 

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE 

Education & Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, or related field   

  • 3+ years of product management and product development experience   

  • Prior experience in product management in consumer and/or commercial durables  

  • Experience initiating and launching new products to market.  

  • Consumer Insights (quantitative and qualitative) experience preferred.  

  • Global product management experience preferred.
