Job Title: Research Intern

Schedule: Part-time internship for the 2024 - 2025 school year with the potential to extend, 15-29 hours per week, flexible. 

Location: Remote, California. There is a strong preference for this position to be based out of the North Bay/Bay Area. There is a secondary preference for the Newport Beach/Orange County/Los Angeles area. Must be willing to travel.

Salary Range: $25/hr

About Walking Softer: 

Walking Softer is a young climate and environmental foundation founded in September 2020, on a mission to inspire, connect, and support changemakers to take bold and immediate action in the conservation and regeneration of our planet.

Position Summary: 

The research intern will support the back-end management and operations of the Young Leaders Award program in collaboration with the Program Coordinator and broader team. Such support will involve research to support certain aspects of the program, including development, logistics, network management, and growth planning. The research intern will also have the opportunity to work with other team members as they relate to our youth and fellowship programs. 

This position reports directly to the Research and Innovation Director, and works closely with the Program Coordinator. 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the management and engagement of the Young Leaders Award program, with opportunities to contribute to other programming;

  • Support the 2025 nomination cycle for the Young Leaders Award cohort. 

  • Create ongoing evaluations and reporting processes that support the assessment and improvement of programming;

  • Assist in the collaboration with and learn from external organizations and experts working in sustainability and social changemaking; 

  • Schedule and organize meetings/events and maintain agenda;

  • Ensure technology is used correctly for all operations (video conferencing, presentations;)

  • Prepare paperwork and order material;

  • Keep updated records and create reports or proposals.

  • Conduct web-based research (articles, reports) and summarize findings

  • Attend stakeholder meetings and prepare notes 

  • Manage and respond to project-related emails

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Excellent computer literacy including experience with Google Drive, Gmail, Microsoft Office Suite (including Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and software applications such as Slack and Zoom

  • Attention to detail

  • Ability to summarize complex information

  • Strong written communication skills

  • Works well independently or as part of a larger team

  • Excellent time management skills

  • Professional and responsible

  • A demonstrated commitment to climate action, sustainability, and/or conservation
