Walking Softer is hiring a Program Manager to join our small but growing team to manage our new Young Leaders Award Program.


Schedule: Full-time, flexible (remote)

Location: The position is based in Colorado or California

Salary Range:  $70,000 - $90,000 dependent on experience (benefits listed below) 

Start Date: August 2022

Walking Softer is a young climate and environment foundation founded in 2021, on a mission to inspire, connect, and support changemakers to take bold and immediate action in the conservation and regeneration of our planet. 


About the Young Leaders Award

The Walking Softer Young Leaders Award (YLA) is a year-long program that aims to support and transform passionate young activists who are reinventing society. Walking Softer resources young changemakers to learn, experiment, and grow as leaders in order to advance their positive impact on the planet now and for decades to come. In its inaugural year, YLA will support a cohort of promising young leaders with proven leadership, commitment and character to advance an early-stage, community-based project, organization, business and/or initiative. 

 

The Program Manager will have the opportunity to:

  • Lead on the management of all program components of the YLA, from selecting candidates through to cohort programming to building an alumni network;

  • Serve as the main point of contact and support for our inspiring young leaders in climate and environment;

  • Shape and oversee an inaugural Leadership Retreat for our Young Leaders;

  • Collaborate with and learn from external organizations and experts working in sustainability and social changemaking;

  • Hire and manage a small team;

  • Play an integral role in the development of an early-stage foundation with a passionate and ambitious team.


Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of program development and management experience;

  • A collaborator that excels at building and maintaining relationships with external partners;

  • Understanding and ability to work in a multi-racial, multi-generational environment;

  • Excellent computer skills including proficiency with Google Suite, Excel, and PowerPoint;

  • Cares deeply about sustainability and the health of the planet.


Our Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience in education or learning journeys;

  • Experience and/or passion for working with young people;

  • Knowledge of social and environmental justice issues;

  • Experience working in or collaborating with the nonprofit sector, private sector, and/or public sectors to achieve social change;

  • Flexible and comfortable with ambiguity, able to respond adeptly to rapidly changing priorities and dynamics; 

  • Works well independently and as part of a small team.
