JOB SUMMARY:
The Lab Technician supports the optical department by fabricating, repairing, and maintaining eyeglasses and lenses with precision and efficiency. This position ensures that all prescriptions are filled accurately and that eyewear meets quality and safety standards. The Lab Technician also assists with equipment maintenance, inventory control, and coordination with the optometric team to ensure timely delivery of patient eyewear.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two years’ minimum experience in customer service.
- Formal optical or laboratory training preferred (ABO certification is a plus).

- Manual dexterity and close visual acuity for detailed work

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Fabricate, edge, and assemble prescription lenses and frames according to doctor specifications.
- Inspect lenses for accuracy, quality, and cosmetic appearance before delivery to patients.
- Perform adjustments, repairs, and alignments on frames and lenses.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure calibration and cleanliness standards are met.
- Track and manage optical inventory, including lenses, frames, and supplies.
- Collaborate with opticians and doctors to resolve prescription or manufacturing issues.
- Follow all safety protocols, including handling of chemicals and lab machinery.
- Log and document all lab work orders, maintaining accurate records.
- Ensure timely completion of patient orders while maintaining high-quality craftsmanship.
- Support front-of-house optical operations as needed, such as assisting with frame selection or patient inquiries.
SENSORY, MOTOR REQUIREMENTS:
- Work is performed primarily in a laboratory or optical setting.
- Requires standing for extended periods and handling delicate instruments.
- May involve exposure to lab chemicals, noise, and small mechanical tools.
- Extensive use of computers.
- Ability to hear and speak clearly.
- Able to lift to 25 lbs.
