JOB SUMMARY:
This individual is responsible for demonstrating proficiency and excellence in eye examination, diagnosis, and treatment skills commensurate with the maximum allowances within the scope of licensure, maximizing the effectiveness, efficiency, and quality of patient care in the practice. Our doctors are driven to stay abreast of advances in the field so that recommendations to patients include latest technology options for optimal vision and eye health. The ideal candidate will support our vision to elevate our practices beyond routine eye care.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Licensed optometrist in the state.
- Graduate of accredited optometry program.
- Two years’ experience in an optometry setting preferred.
- Prefer advanced training/certification and interest in specialized services:
- Vision Therapy
- Specialty contact lenses
- Dry eye treatment
- Myopia management
- Pre/post operative surgical care
- Aesthetics

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Optometric Examinations:
- Independent patient examinations within the scope of licensure.
- Timely interpretation of diagnostic tests ordered with appropriate patient notification.
- Prescribe medications to treat ocular diseases and disorders commiserate with state laws.
- Emergency patient examinations.
- Coordination of care as appropriate with other eye care professionals (including co-management of surgical patients)
- Participation in rotating call schedules and availability for back-up in complex situations.
- Examination and prescription for contact lenses or spectacles.
- Evaluation of patient lifestyle to determine best recommendations for corrective lenses.
- Coaching and instruction to maximize patient’s use of corrective lenses and other recommended devices.
- Clinical coaching of support staff to ensure consistency in patient care and instruction, thus improving patient compliance with any treatment plans.
- Administrative:
- Collaborates with office manager to establish schedule and advises regarding any changes at least one month in advance of change.
- Documents all patient encounters in the medical record with appropriate signatures, abbreviations, and clarity of treatment plan.
- Bills for services provided in accordance with state law and insurance regulatory requirements.
- Community Outreach and Practice Growth:
- Supports practice growth strategies which may include 1) community eye health screenings; 2) meetings with potential referral sources; 3) participation in community associations or events
- Provides clinical tips or other written materials for patient education, for example, writing a blog on latest dry eye treatments.
- Education:
- Collaborates with office manager and other practice doctors to provide continuing education to staff regarding latest advances in eye care.
CONTINUED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Participates with appropriate professional organizations to gain knowledge and have resources available for the continued improvement of the practice.
OTHER
- Other duties as assigned.

- Travel between office locations (if more than one location for the practice).
