We are a venture-backed disruptive Machine Learning/AI biotechnology company focused on revolutionizing gene delivery. This hire will be in a fast-paced start-up environment playing a crucial technical role in implementing Nanite’s technology across a range of application areas. The candidate will work with senior leadership and partner projects gaining broad internal and external exposure.

 

 

Essential Functions and Duties

 

  • Serve as the resource manager for automation at Nanite, taking ownership of all existing automation equipment and ensuring uptime and utilization by biology and chemistry groups.
  • Develop vision for next generation lab automation at Nanite with the goals of : (i) integrating sample prep with assay execution for biology, (ii) executing advanced chemical synthesis, upstream reaction prep, and downstream processing vialling for chemistry, and (iii) developing next generation infrastructure for automated data ingestion into Nanite’s data repositories in close coordination with Nanite’s ML group.
  • Serve as a platform evangelist for automation as a means to increase throughput and reproducibility across Nanite’s experimental teams.  This will include developing deep understanding of all relevant workflows and creating actionable plans for automation, developing SOPs, and providing training and support to end users within Nanite.
  • Develop creative solutions for hard-to-automate workflows.
  • Build Nanite’s automation infrastructure in systematic and scalable manner, ensuring that workflows and instrumentation can be expanded into larger, more advanced footprints without major reinvention.
  • Act as a resource to management for facilities planning and resource allocation.

 

 

Qualifications

 

Education and Experience

B.S. in biological sciences, mechanical engineering or electrical engineering with 5 years of experience in laboratory automation.  Experience with state of the art laboratory automation tools and liquid handlers (e.g. Hamilton, HighRes Biosolutions, Tecan, and others) is required. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong attention to detail and comfortable working in a highly dynamic environment.
  • Experience with LIMS system and programming knowledge in python, C#, and SQL is required.
  • Experience with simulation software (e.g. MATLAB, Simulink) and 3D modeling and design tools (e.g. AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Labview) is required.
  • Experience with multiple ELN systems is desirable.
  • Experience in a high throughput screening or next generation sequencing core facility is desirable.
  • Hands on experience in sample preparation and bio assays automation implementation, such as ELISA, qPCR, FACS, NGS, and fluorescence imaging is highly desirable.

 

 

Additional Preferred Experience (desired, but not essential):

  • Experience in working with large data libraries and interfacing with computational teams.
  • Experience in setting up automation facilities from scratch.
