Position Summary: Own and improve the reliability of production equipment by troubleshooting and sustaining electromechanical, controls, and firmware-adjacent systems across OPT’s manufacturing floor.
Essential Functions:
- Own sustaining engineering for production equipment, with a focus on uptime, safety, and repeatability
- Maintain and improve electrical, mechanical and optical systems across existing manufacturing equipment.
- Diagnose equipment failures, perform root-cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventative actions
- Update equipment, documentation, training, and maintenance procedures to prevent recurrence
- Design, maintain, and improve wiring, controls, and automation systems for printers and manufacturing equipment
- Support integration and replacement of motors, sensors, actuators, and controllers as part of sustaining upgrades
- Support troubleshooting and urgent production issues on aggressive timelines
Qualifications:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or equivalent hands-on experience
- 3+ years supporting production or 3D printing equipment in a sustaining, controls, or manufacturing engineering role
- Strong troubleshooting skills across electromechanical systems
- Basic to intermediate experience with firmware or embedded systems used in production equipment
- Experience in robotics or motion-control systems (servo drives, encoders, coordinated motion)
- Proven experience performing root-cause analysis and implementing preventative fixes
- Comfortable owning equipment uptime and responding to production downtime under pressure
- Ability to document fixes, improve procedures, and train operators and technicians
