OPT Industries (http://optindustries.com) is a rapidly growing, venture-backed MIT spinoff company that focuses on building the next generation of additive manufacturing technology. Working at the intersection of automation engineering, computational design and polymer science, we design and commercially manufacture highly customizable materials and products- everything from medical devices to luxury fashion. Materials are at the core of what we do. As we continue to expand our operation, we are looking for an experienced scientist/engineer to develop novel polymer and processing methods to meet a diverse range of performance targets for our customers’ products. Candidates must be self-motivated, possess excellent communication skills, and excited to collaborate with a dynamic team to bring material solutions to the world’s top-tier brands
Roles and Responsibilities:
Lead photo-polymer chemistry in core technology development projects. Perform hands-on characterization of the various resin processing methods and understand how process changes affect properties and performance of final products. Work cross-functionally with software/hardware teams to resolve causes of printing
issues.
Lead photo-polymer chemistry projects when needed for development of products for various specific applications for customers.
Be capable of doing hands-on experimental and analytical work with industry best practices in collaboration with team mates.
Be capable of managing lab techs if allocated to projects.
Manage projects in a stage-gate process. Document works to meet the requirements of the OPT quality management system. Keep thorough batch and characterization records.
Work with the commercial team, to develop design specifications and function requirements from a polymer chemistry perspective. Work with the manufacturing team to troubleshoot scale up/manufacturing issues when they occur.
Help create Standard Operating Procedures for new experimental photochemistry resins that require a new procedure or a modified procedure.
Experience:
PhD in polymer chemistry, polymer science, material science, chemical engineering is necessary. Preferably in polymer chemistry, preferably in photo-polymerization. Preferably around 5 years of relevant industry experience.
Demonstrated experience in solving tough problems in photo-polymer chemistry.
Deep knowledge and understanding of various chemistries in photo polymerization.
Excellent communication skills.
Preferable to have experience working with statistical data analysis software such as Minitab or JMP.
