Research Coordinator – Video Games Research Operations
We’re looking for a Research Coordinator to join our growing team, based in Los Angeles (though this position can work remotely most of the time). We are the leading consumer market research and consulting firm in the video game field, and we regularly conduct focus groups, interviews, and playtests to collect data and insights for our clients. This position will manage participant recruitment for some of our ongoing projects – identifying qualified candidates from within our Good Gamer Group panel, conducting phone or video rescreening with them, coordinating logistics with the project team and participants, and generally ensuring that we have the right research participants in the right place, at the right time! Most tasks can be handled remotely; however, we’re also looking for someone who would be willing to do on-site check-ins and some light IT work at our office or partner locations around the Los Angeles area.
The ideal candidate for this role has good phone etiquette, personal organization, and tech savviness, including working knowledge of Microsoft Excel. A background in research isn’t necessary, but you should be ready to self-motivate to complete your tasks on strict deadlines. General knowledge of gaming and the biggest game franchises is strongly preferred. Most of our projects are focused on specific video game titles, franchises, or video game genres - industry knowledge and gaming passion are highly desirable qualities in a candidate. We will provide all required training for the right candidate.
Responsibilities
- Recruit qualified participants for Interpret’s qualitative research, using our industry-leading Good Gamer Group panel
- Understand and execute on the unique qualifications for each study, paying close attention to quotas, subquotas, nuance between groups, etc. to ensure the participants match the needs of the research
- “Code” screener surveys with user-friendly software Alchemer (formerly SurveyGizmo)
- Learn basic CRM functionality and use email/SMS marketing to generate screener survey responses
- Track project progress in Microsoft Excel, using simple data manipulation / formulas to display research participants’ responses in a “grid” format
- Fully vet recruits via phone and/or video response to ensure all participants meet the qualifications stated in the screener survey
- Coordinate with and confirm dates and times of participation with recruits, sending emails and making reminder calls as needed to ensure strong attendance
- For hybrid employees, occasionally travel to do check-ins and light IT work at our Interpret playtesting labs or our clients’ facilities

- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook (very helpful to have but training can be provided)
- General knowledge of the gaming market and major game genres/franchises across PC, Console, and mobile platforms
- Willingness to learn new software as part of the job
Experience
None required – we are open to all situations and life stages; however, the ideal candidate may be someone who has recently / will soon graduate from college
Compensation
This is a freelance position (W-9) with a pay range of $18-$20 per hour. Hours and work schedule are relatively flexible. We compensate for mileage and travel time when working on-site. There is potential for strong performers to move into a W-2 position.
