Video (Broadcast) Engineer / Architect



Location: Onsite in Englewood, CO

Job Type: W2 Full-Time Employee

Salary Pay Range: $150K-$230K depending on experience


About the Role:


Our client is looking for a Video Architect to help architect their new Encoder as a Service project. Your day to day responsibilities may include:


Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement electronic systems including audio, video and other multimedia equipment.

  • Identify, and resolve operational and design issues through data analysis and recommend solutions to make systems more efficient.

  • Partner with Engineering to design and test system designs.

  • Work with the field on the implementation of network related projects and other standardization efforts.

  • Interact with vendors and Engineering to resolve issues and design flaws.

  • Work with security teams and implement security policies

  • Responsible for keeping systems complaint with company standards

  • Responsible for any technical solutions for broadcast

  • Report status to the key stakeholders

  • Partner with other IT teams to achieve business excellence

  • Document systems, network designs, configurations and keep them up to date


Must Have: 

Here are some of the key technologies that make up our environment. While we do not expect you to have a detailed understanding of each, the more of these you are familiar with, the better:

  • Overall 15+ years of experience with minimum 5+years of relevant experience in broadcast datacenter in traditional, cloud and hybrid environments.

  • Strong knowledge in TV broadcast hardware, broadcast consoles and mixing systems, digital playback / automation systems, AM/FM/TV broadcast transmitters, satellite uplinks and downlinks, STL and microwave systems, data/voice networks, structured cabling, power generators, UPS battery backup systems, CCTV and security.

  • Very strong hands on experience with Linux/Unix Operating Systems administration, kernel details, security, and configurations

  • Hands on experience in setting up audio and video systems, gain structure, processing and leveling

  • Expert in streaming video encoding, codecs and processing 

  • Strong knowledge in MPEG-2 to H.264/AVC and H.265 (HEVC) standards and streaming protocols such as HLS, DASH.

  • Good understanding of configuration and support of advanced video equipment (e.g. VOD, controllers, multiplexing, digital transport, edge QAM).

  • Previous working experience with experience with building, grooming, and troubleshooting various linear and NextGen/OTT/TVE multiplexing, encoding and transcoding platforms such as Harmonic, Imagine, Arris and Ericsson is needed.

  • Basic understanding and experience with Cisco DCMs, Arris CAP/DM6400 Cherry Pickers, BMRs, Imagine BNPs and APEX1k-3k.

  • Experience in scripting and Linux operating systems

  • Understanding of network including TCP/IP, IPSec and routing protocols, DHCP, routers, switches, and firewalls

  • Understanding of video network architecture, data networking, system operations, and HFC cable systems are required.

  • Verbal and written communication skills, and an ability to work with cross functional project team

  • Experience with delivering projects in an agile environment using SCRUM methodologies.

  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.



Nice to Have:

  • Strong knowledge with Systems - Compute, Storage, Networking. Software Defined Networking (SDN) preferred. 

  • Experience with IP multicast video in cable Headends, Hubs, industry vendors’ a plus

  • One or more of the following certifications: SCTE BTCS, SCTE Moving Pictures Expert Group (MPEG), SBE SBNT (Certified Broadcast Networking Technologist), SBE-CTO (Certified Television Operator) a plus
