POSITION: Cyber Security Engineering Subject Matter Expert (SME)

Position Summary:

As the Cyber Security Engineering Subject Matter Expert (SME) you will actively support the existing Security Team and other Stakeholders in the development and improvement of cybersecurity capabilities, to meet current and future security requirements.

 

Responsibilities:

 

·       Evaluate and recommend the purchase of new security technologies and information security software based on the ability of those technologies to mitigate gaps, vulnerabilities, and threats.

·       Supporting scripts for data analysis, as well as implementation guidance.

·       Develop automations for data analysis (e.g., SailPoint).

·       Support implementation and administration of IT security tools (e.g., Tanium, Carbon Black Cloud, Privilege Account Management tool).

·       Conduct Customer Help Desk incident handling activities.

·       Conduct initial investigation of issues before assignment of the ticket

·       Draft knowledge documents, obtain approval, and support publication of those documents

·       Develop, implement, and coordinate activities to apply configuration management settings to mitigate vulnerabilities.

·       Interpret existing policy and procedural controls covering application security, information security, and system software security.

·       Conduct hands-on training for the security community regarding new or updated operational procedures.

·       Provide a summary of activities for the Monthly Performance and Progress Report (MPPR).

 

Experience:

·       Minimum of five (5) years’ of demonstrated experience in Cyber Security Engineering.

·       Demonstrated working experience with IT security tools (e.g., Tanium, Carbon Black Cloud)

·       Excellent oral and written communication skills with a keen sense of customer service

·        Ability to support ad hoc scripting is highly desired

·       Understanding of Federal security regulations and policies.

·       Hands on knowledge of the Forest Service’s technical environment (Preferred)

 

Education, Certification, and Licensing Requirements:

·       BS in Computer Science, IT, IS, or equivalent area of technical study (IT experience can

·       substitute for a BS degree)

·       One of the following certifications or higher (CASP+, CYSA, CISSP)

·       Active Public Trust Moderate, or ability to attain.

·       Must successfully complete a background investigation.
