AlgiKnit is looking for a Scientist with demonstrated knowledge of polymer chemistry and synthesis. Textile science, polymer spinning, and material characterization skills are desired. This individual is the go-to person for polymer modification, , but is prepared to dive into other areas to fix roadblocks as they arise. The Scientist deftly translates team and company goals into personal priorities and delegates where necessary. Through excellent communication and project leadership, they support the team in working more effectively. This individual contributes great ideas and sees them through to completion.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and propose innovative research projects that will provide competitive advantage and have significant value creation potential.

  • Support R&D leadership with project design and implementation with a focus on reaching data-driven conclusions

  • Coordinate with the R&D team in planning experiments to meet project deadlines

  • Own end-to-end responsibility on projects of increasing complexity within agreed upon timeframe by employing on-the-fly troubleshooting

  • Aptly delegate project responsibilities and tasks as necessary in the face of roadblocks

  • Provide guidance to the R&D team by giving helpful and thorough project reviews and feedback

  • Apply knowledge of organic chemistry to develop and optimize formulations and advance strategic goals.

  • Characterize process–structure–property relationships

  • Overview materials characterizations 

  • Maintain lab safety at all times

Required Skills:

  • Proven experience with polymeric material synthesis and modifications

  • Fundamental understanding of polymer chemistry

  • Professional, detail-oriented, and excellent time and project management skillsHighly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines

  • Capable of prioritizing tasks and directing efforts appropriately

  • Quick learner, independently adapts from trial and error

  • Excellent problem solving skills; takes the initiative to fix issues before being asked

  • Ability to handle confidential business informationEfficient and effective communication skills across an interdisciplinary team

  • Team player with a positive attitude

  • Previous experience with Microsoft Office and Google Suite

Supplementary: 

  • Industrial experience in polymer synthesis or processing 

  • General business knowledge/background inp environments

  • A passion for sustainability and circular economies 

Job Details:

Qualifications: 

  • Ph.D in chemistry, material science, polymer science or engineering  or similar discipline

  • A minimum of 4 years of R&D experience in polymer synthesis
