Job Overview:

Spectrum is growing rapidly and we’re looking for an experienced SaaS/Enterprise B2B Director of Product Marketing to join our team. In this role, you will act as the catalyst for new product launches, steer expansion of marketshare in existing markets and lead product positioning and messaging of new products and solutions to address the needs of entirely new markets and personas.

This is a highly collaborative role, acting as the glue integrating several cross-functional stakeholders across Product, Marketing, Customer Solutions, Sales and executive teams, making sure everyone’s in the loop, helping to define and then distill the strategy and messaging into an action plan. You will work with product management and sales to uncover pain-points and turn roadmaps into client-centric propositions, leading persona definition and customer journey mapping to move prospects through the sales cycle from awareness to consideration to purchase.

In this role you will use (or conduct your own) market, client and prospect research, competitive intelligence and analysis of industry/segment trends to develop effective and actionable sales and marketing plans for each of the segments served. You will own the creation and distribution of all sales enablement materials, so your ability to translate technical capabilities and persona needs into compelling content for internal and external audiences is critical.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Own product launch planning and execution

    • Collaborate with Product Management in preparing market opportunity analysis and defining the market opportunity, identifying competitive products, market trends, audience segments and positioning recommendations

    • Own the product positioning and messaging process, gathering stakeholder input from executives, product teams, sales and customer success account owners as well as your own market and customer research to define messaging hierarchy, differentiation and product positioning using Spectrum’s positioning methodology (or a similarly rigorous methodology of your own)

  • Be the catalyst and central hub for product launch coordination

    • Collaborate with Sales, Brand/CMO, Lead Generation, Community and Business Development stakeholders to define customer journeys, personas and sales enablement/messaging requirements for product launches or market expansion

    • Own the product launch planning, process and execution program management, setting team stand-ups, deliverables, milestones and facilitating cross-functional integration for successful product launches

  • Own all sales support materials

    • Own the definition, briefing/writing/execution of all sales enablement materials as well as sales enablement/launch meetings and optimization of sales materials based on feedback from sales teams’ use of the materials in the field

    • Implement company-wide systems to distribute sales materials, capture client feedback, benchmark and measure launch activities for optimization and other solutions that improve internal coordination and streamline efficiency in collaborative work

    • Create and maintain a library of content and sales tools; sales sheets, battlecards, customer presentations, competitive materials, website, social copy and more

    • Get feedback and requirements from end-users and collaborate with sales teams and subject matter experts in various departments to ensure sales materials are effective and optimized based on real-world input

  • Story-teller and communicator:

    • Define how we talk about new and existing products, who we’re talking to and how to best demonstrate our products’ excellence and utility

    • As the person defining new product messaging and overseeing launch planning, you will also become it’s internal evangelist and expert, helping others in the company learn about new products and how to present them to customers. The ideal candidate is a strong story-teller who excels at distilling complex technologies and abstract business use-cases into crisp value selling stories and simple, clear explanations. He/she knows when to use which kind of communication for the right audience (internal and external) and for each stage of the customer journey. As the central hub of product launch planning and execution, she/he is extremely transparent, clear and communicative; the ability to gain trust and credibility within and outside the function are critical to the success of the role.

What we are looking for:

  • You have a leadership mindset – as the owner and catalyst of a new product launch, you know that it’s up to you to make sure all of the teams involved in your launch plan know what they need to do and have the tools to succeed; your success is dependent on making everyone else successful

  • You are an excellent communicator – equally effective in presenting to internal teams and executives as you are in writing product copy or directing the creation of a compelling sales deck

  • You like to collaborate with others – launching products is a team sport and you like working with others to achieve success together; you are far more interested in making sure everyone is rowing in the same direction toward a shared goal than in taking the credit or shifting the blame

  • You shift between strategic and detail-oriented POVs easily - You can discuss product strategy at the executive level and also be the last point of approval on all product detail copy. You are so detail-oriented that when answering this ad you will include “PMM” in the job description title.

  • You are organized and able to thrive in a self-directed environment – We’re a 100% remote company so being proactive is a requirement in getting things done. This role in particular will require you to pro-actively reach out to cross-functional partners to get answers, set meetings, gather and distribute information and set team agendas.

  • You are experienced but experimental – Experienced enough to know the right way to do it – but open to experimenting to find something more effective.

  • You measure success with metrics

  • You are curious – a lifelong learner mentality provides you with the ability to quickly grasp and assess new product use-cases for products that don’t exist yet; you love to learn about clients’ products, industries and work
