As an R&D Tax & Audit Specialist, you will assist our R&D Tax and Audit Defense Teams in completing tax studies and audits for a variety of clients. You will also provide support to our clients on a regular basis and be an essential component of our growing practice.

We are currently a small firm but are growing at a fast pace and we need high quality talent. We primarily serve closely-held, small- to mid-sized companies. This allows our partners and staff to experience a variety of issues, challenges, and opportunities different than those afforded by Big-4 or Top 10 Accounting Firms.
Job Title: R&D Tax & Audit Specialist
Location: Remote Position
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting federal and state tax examinations, including:

- Reviewing, summarizing, and drafting responses to audit correspondence;
- Preparing protest letters and responses to information document requests; and
- Assisting with audit meeting presentations and preparing for same;
- Supporting R&D Tax Credit studies, including:
- Obtaining and analyzing client data using Excel models;
- Documenting, reviewing, and assembling comprehensive work product for review by IRS and other taxing authorities;
- Assisting with other quantification and qualification tasks, as needed.
- Communicating with partners and staff regarding opinions, pending cases, and publications relevant to BRAYN’s tax services;
- Developing an understanding of the available Federal & State tax programs available and reviewing statutes to develop arguments for improving service lines; and
- Assisting with internal requests for information and/or interpretation related to new service lines or other opportunities for expanding services offered to our clients.
Skills & Qualifications
- Previous experience handling and/or assisting with R&D Tax Credit audits;
- Previous experience preparing and/or assisting in the preparation of R&D Tax Credit studies;
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task on a variety of tasks and projects;
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, strong documentation skills;
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.);
- Time management skills and attention to detail
- Self-starter with a roll-up-your-sleeves attitude
- A quiet, secure work location;

- Undergraduate degree in STEM or Accounting preferred; and
- JD, CPA, or advanced degree in STEM preferred.
