BRAYN is looking for a new BRAYNiac! Interested in joining our dynamic team? We are in search of Tax Law Intern to join our practice! As a Tax Law Intern, you will primarily assist our R&D Tax and Audit Defense Teams in completing tax studies and audits for a variety of clients. You will also provide support to our clients on a regular basis and be an essential component of our growing practice.

BRAYN Consulting LLC is a consulting firm which supports CPA firms and their clients in taking full advantage of specialty tax credits and incentives. We are currently a small firm but are growing at a fast pace and we need high quality talent. We primarily serve closely-held, small- to mid-sized companies. This allows our partners and staff to experience a variety of issues, challenges, and opportunities different than those afforded by Big-4 or Top 10 Accounting Firms.

 

Job Title: Tax Law Intern (10-20 hours per week)

Location: Remote Position

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Researching and briefing major court cases for use in company trainings, audits, and marketing presentations;
  • Supporting federal and state tax examinations, including:
    • Reviewing, summarizing, and drafting responses to audit correspondence;
    • Preparing protest letters and responses to information document requests; and
    • Assisting with audit meeting presentations and preparing for same;
  • Communicating with partners and staff regarding opinions, pending cases, and publications relevant to BRAYN’s tax services;
  • Developing an understanding of the available Federal & State tax programs available and reviewing statutes to develop arguments for improving service lines; and
  • Assisting on R&D tax credit and other incentive studies as needed, including:
    • Writing detailed reports and narratives;
    • Researching and analyzing the Internal Revenue Code, Treasury Regulations, and relevant court cases; and
    • Documenting, reviewing, and assembling comprehensive work product for review by IRS and state examiners.

 

Skills & Qualifications

  • 2L or 3L (or 1L with CPA license)
  • Completion of a course in either Federal Income Tax or Partnership Tax (both preferred)
  • Undergraduate degree in STEM or Accounting preferred
  • Time management skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task on a variety of tasks and projects
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, strong documentation skills
  • Previous work experience in architecture, engineering, and/or construction industry a plus
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Must have a quiet, secure work location
  • Self-starter with a roll-up-your-sleeves attitude
