PROFILE SUMMARY:
Pharmacist In Charge coordinates and supervises the department in regard to the drug distribution and clinical pharmacy activities for the assigned pharmacy department. The role is responsible for safe and efficient methods for coordination of established pharmacy policy concerning drug patient care and provides clinical drug information to meet the needs of the patient, nurse and physician. The incumbent will supervise an assigned team and be responsible for the department requirements.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Monitor all daily operation activities of the pharmacy department.
- Provide supervision for the dispensing pharmacy.
- Monitor regulatory, accreditation compliance (e.g. State Board of Pharmacy, DEA, FDA and Accreditation bodies, etc.) and partner with the Compliance Officer to address them.
- Communicate and educate staff on pharmacy related issues as regulatory compliance and changes, FDA drug recalls, drug information, etc.
- Implement quality assurance programs to evaluate the quality of patient care and maintain compliance with procedural, policy and regulatory requirements.
- Implement policies and procedures for the procurement, storage, security and disposition of drugs and supplies.
- Maintain record of all required pharmacist and intern licensures and technician registration for current staff as required by California State Board law.
- Respond to the board regarding any notices issued by the Board.
- Implement policies and procedures for maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of prescription information and patient healthcare information.
- Ensure pharmacy is in compliance with all local, state and federal accrediting rules and regulations regarding the practice of pharmacy.
- Serve as a primary source of information and responds to internal and external customer questions or clarification of information.
- Maintain controlled substances reporting requirements as CURES, respond to and resolve regulatory surveyor’s inquiries related to compliance issues.
- Partner with other department Leads/Managers and work closely with the nursing team.
- Limit risk management and safety exposure in the pharmacy and department.
- Participate in the interviewing/hiring process. Train, assign, and direct work.
- Participate in on call rotation as indicated by staffing and business needs.
- Ensures that the quality of professional services is maintained.
- Dispense prescriptions to ensure that each patient receives the medications exactly as prescribed by medical providers.
- Ensure effective communications with providers, patients, and associates to provide patient focused superior accuracy, safety and security.
- Provide patient consultations regarding safe use and storage of prescription medications, relevant health factors, and to respond to inquiries. Consult with prescribing physicians as questions warrant.
- Maintain effective communications with physicians, patients, and manufacturer/HUB to foster enduring business relationships and build customer loyalty.
- Provide technical, policy, and regulatory guidance to pharmacy technicians to ensure that all medications are accurately dispensed, recorded, labeled and stored for pick up or delivery and that all reimbursements for prescription medications are accurately processed and recorded.
- Assist with the maintenance of workflow, assigning technicians and other pharmacy.
- Participates in in-service education programs when requested.
- Verifies the work performed by support personnel, which includes patient drug data entry, and unit-dose drug distribution.
- Assist with the clinical follow up of specialty patients as applicable.
- Drug utilization review of patient charts
- Maintain a working knowledge of the duties of the personnel in the unit.

- Customer Service - Follows up on complaints, questions, and concerns that come to the department; responds to customer needs in a timely and efficient manner.
- Run and create reports as needed to audit and maintain workflow and revenue goals.
- Review and organize employees’ schedules, approve/deny vacation/sick requests on current payroll system.
- Conduct staff meetings on daily and weekly basis as needed.
EDUCATION
- Required: Bachelors Degree or equivalent (Pharmacy)
- Preferred (if applicable): PharmD (Pharmacy)
- Required Certification, License or Memberships: CA BOP RPh License in Good standing
EXPERIENCE
- B.S. or Doctorate of Pharmacy degree. (required)
- Active California pharmacist license in good standing. (required)
- Must have 2 to 4 years of experience with Specialty or Infusion pharmacy. (required)
- 4 or more years’ experience with Specialty or Infusion Pharmacy. (preferred)
- Previous Pharmacy Management experience in an infusion/specialty environment. (required)
TECHNICAL / SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
- Thorough knowledge of Specialty Pharmacy laws and regulations.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Pay Range:
$72-$84/hr DOE
Actual base pay could vary based on factors including but not limited to experience, subject matter expertise, geographic location where work will be performed, and the applicant's skill set. The base pay is just one component of the total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include an annual cash bonus and a comprehensive benefits package.
