Job Purpose
The Racquets Professional supports the Sharon Heights racquet sports program during peak season by delivering engaging clinics, youth programs, and private lessons primarily in tennis but occasional pickleball lessons as well. This position focuses of providing fun developmentally appropriate instruction while fostering a welcoming and energetic environment for members.
Job Summary (Essential Functions)
- Teach group clinics in tennis and pickleball with an emphasis on youth development, beginner, and recreational players.
- Assist with seasonal camps, junior programming, and family racquet events.
- Provide private and semi-private lessons by member request as availability permits.
- Help introduce new players to racquet sports through complimentary orientation/hitting sessions.
- Promote participation in racquet sports offerings across the club.
- Support the setup and breakdown of racquet clinics, events, and camps.
- Ensure teaching equipment and courts are safe, clean, and organized.
- Assist in overseeing the junior coaches both at practice and swim meets, providing leadership advice and guidance.
- Act as a positive role model, promoting sportsmanship and a fun supportive club culture.
Job Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required; college coursework in kinesiology, recreation, or sports management preferred.
- Certifications: USPTA or PTR certification (or in progress). Pickleball certification a plus (PPR/PCI)
- Experience: Prior coaching or teaching experience with juniors and beginners strongly preferred. Collegiate playing experience or equivalent skill level preferred.
- Skills: Strong communication skills, enthusiasm for youth development, and ability to adapt instruction for all ages and skill levels.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Must be able to lift 30 lbs, as well as stand for extended periods of time. Frequent standing, walking, lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, running, jumping in varying weather conditions.
Work Schedule and Hours
- Seasonal part-time: during peak demand periods such as spring, summer, and fall sessions
- Flexible hours: Afternoon, evening, holiday, and weekend availability required
Pay Rate: This is an hourly position ranging from $25 - $85. Varies based on clinics and lessons .
