Location: Nashville, TN. This position offers a flexible hybrid schedule with an expectation of 3 days in the office and/or customer visits.

Job Summary:
Blattner Technologies is seeking an exceptionally skilled and visionary Principal Data Architect to lead the strategic design, implementation, and optimization of our enterprise-level database systems. This high-level role demands a seasoned expert with a profound understanding of database technologies, extensive experience in database architecture, and a distinguished track record in driving large-scale database initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a strategic and forward-thinking mindset, exceptional leadership abilities, and the capability to influence and drive innovation across the organization.

 

 

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Database Architecture & Design:

  • Lead the design and implementation of advanced, scalable, and secure database systems to support the Supervvisor product suite and other enterprise solutions.
  • Develop and maintain robust, high-performance database architectures that align with the company’s strategic goals.
  • Oversee the seamless migration of legacy systems to cutting-edge database technologies, ensuring minimal disruption and maximum efficiency.

Advanced Performance Optimization:

  • Architect and implement innovative solutions to monitor, optimize, and scale database performance and capacity.
  • Design and enforce advanced security protocols to safeguard database integrity and confidentiality.
  • Conduct comprehensive database health checks and audits to ensure sustained optimal performance and compliance with industry standards.

Data Integrity and Reliability:

  • Establish and enforce rigorous validation rules for incoming data, ensuring uncompromised data integrity and reliability.
  • Develop and implement sophisticated strategies for data cleaning, normalization, and integration.
  • Architect robust logging and alert mechanisms to proactively identify and resolve database issues.

Cross-Functional Collaboration and Support:

  • Lead collaboration efforts with data engineers, software developers, and other key stakeholders to ensure seamless database integration and performance.
  • Provide expert-level technical support and strategic guidance for complex database-related challenges.
  • Engage directly with customers to understand their needs, providing tailored and innovative database solutions.

Technical Leadership and Innovation:

  • Stay at the forefront of emerging database technologies, integrating cutting-edge solutions into the company’s operations.
  • Develop and enforce industry-leading database administration standards and best practices.
  • Mentor and lead a team of database engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and excellence.

Strategic Project Management:

  • Lead and manage complex, large-scale database projects, including migrations, upgrades, and new implementations.
  • Utilize advanced project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum) to ensure project success, timely delivery, and alignment with business objectives.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, innovative database solutions on time and within budget.

 

Travel

  • Travel may include business meetings and customer visits as required.

 

Required Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 15+ years of experience in database architecture and administration, with a focus on large-scale enterprise solutions.

Technical Skills:

  • Extensive expertise in SQL, PostgreSQL, vector databases, MongoDB, SAP, and other advanced database technologies.
  • Proven experience with both relational and non-relational databases at an enterprise level.
  • Proficient in managing and optimizing structured and unstructured data types.
  • Deep understanding of complex database structures, schemas, and architectures.
  • Specific experience with large-scale legacy system migrations.
  • Advanced knowledge of data profiling and data quality tools.
  • Extensive experience with ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes, especially related to EDI data.

Soft Skills:

  • Exceptional communication skills, with a proven ability to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse, globally dispersed technical and management teams.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to thrive under pressure.
  • Relevant advanced technical certifications in database technologies.
  • Extensive customer-facing experience with a consultative approach.
  • Expertise in cloud-based database solutions and architectures.
  • Proven leadership and mentoring abilities, with a track record of developing high-performing teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of data warehousing, big data technologies, and advanced analytics.
  • Multiple certifications in relevant database technologies and methodologies.
  • Proven experience in database performance tuning, optimization, and scaling at an enterprise level.

Work Schedule: Flexible hybrid (3 days in the office and/or customer visits)

Job Type: Full-time

Compensation Range: $180,000-$230,000
