Job Description 

X-Bow is looking for an Applied Fluid Mechanics Engineer with both hands-on experience, and strong fundamental knowledge of fluid mechanics, components and systems. An individual that is comfortable working in a constantly evolving, fast paced, self-driven atmosphere that is part of an extraordinary team of dedicated people. This position will be an opportunity for research and development of highly disruptive technology in the solid rocket motor industry. As an applied fluids engineer you will be responsible for the following:   

  • Utilizing understanding of fluid components such as valves, tubing, pressurized hardware and seals to improve and refine additive manufacturing processes  

  • Perform thermal, fluid and structural analysis along with system and component development 

  • Extensive CAD modeling required for both existing equipment and conceptual/prototype equipment 

  • Performing FEA and fluid simulations to analyze everything from the component level up to the full operating system  

  • Creating and reviewing engineering drawings using GD&T 

  • Mechanical design, requirements, analysis, component selection, modeling, manufacturing and test definition 

  • Performing data analysis, statistical research, peer, and literature review to evaluate and present test data internally and externally 

  • Analyzing engineering problems and adopt effective courses of action 

  • Maintaining design records, models, trade studies, and rationale 

  • Developing, implementing and documenting intellectual property in the form of new machines, tools, processes, and products 

  • Contributing to and operate effectively with multi-disciplinary technical teams for research, development, and manufacturing activities 

  • Reading and interpret technical drawings and specifications 

  • Manage a successful supply-chain and maintain positive vendor relationships 

Facility/Laboratory 

  • Team member responsibilities to maintain and improve laboratory and facility environment 

  • Manage projects and small engineering teams in laboratory environment 

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work

We are looking for a candidate who combines strong communication, organization, and management skills with broad interests and experience in the aerospace industry.  As a key member of a small, dynamic, and highly skilled team you will be expected to actively collaborate with others as well as work independently to successfully accomplish assignments and responsibilities. Creativity and methodical problem solving are both required.   

 

Experience and Skill Requirements 

  • 3-5 years of experience is preferred 

  • Fundamental knowledge of fluid components and systems, as well as hands-on experiences of various types of valves, flow meters, and other fluid-based equipment 

  • Strong project planning, critical thinking, written and oral communication skills are required as well as proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) 

  • Proficient with CAD software, particularly with large assemblies and shared designs among teams 

  • Mechanical and fluid design experience 

  • Experience with FEA, ANSYS Fluent, or other CFD Software (CFD software experience not a requirement, but strongly desired) 

  • Experience with GD&T 

  • Strong work ethic and the ability to self-manage, both individually and in a team setting 

  • Root cause analysis experience and demonstrated troubleshooting ability through testing and other development 

Education  

This position requires a Bachelor of Science degree preferably in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related subject field and a minimum of two years of directly related technical experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).  An Advanced degree is desirable.  

General Requirements 

Must be a US Citizen.  May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level.  Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information; having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.
