Principal Scientist 1 – Marlborough, MA

(Cell based assays and Flow Cytometry - Immunoassay)

 

 

About the Opportunity

Meadowhawk Biolabs is seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated Scientist to work within the non-GLP Immunoanalytical Services Team at our Marlborough, MA site.  The ideal candidate is creative, hardworking, results focused, driven and has prior experience in Cell based assays and Flow Cytometry for analysis of biologically derived samples. Given that we are a newly launched Contract Research Organization (CRO) founded by an experienced team of industry veterans, this position offers unique ground floor opportunities for the successful candidate to contribute meaningfully to the creation and development of our services, expand their knowledge base by participation in multidisciplinary teams, and advance their career in capabilities and responsibilities.

 

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

 

  • Independently conduct quantitative flow cytometry methods of varying complexity to study both cell-surface and intracellular targets
  • Critically review data, investigate anomalous results, and provide detailed feedback to senior scientific staff
  • Demonstrate emerging skills in development and execution of complex assays
  • Manage multiple studies simultaneously to provide high quality data under strict timelines.
  • Participate in writing, revision, and review of SOPs and guidelines as appropriate
  • Assist in evaluation of new scientific techniques, instrumentation, and laboratory equipment
  • Involved in the planning and implementation of process improvement initiatives
  • Mentor 1-2 junior members of the immunoanalytical team
  • Participate in external client communication
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned

 

Minimum Education and Qualifications:

 

Bachelor’s or Master’s or Doctoral degree in immunology, cell biology, pharmaceutical sciences, or another related scientific field with a minimum of 10 years (BS) or 8 years (MS) directly related industry experience or doctorate degree with at least 2 years of experience. Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered as substitution for the specific requirements outlined above.

 

  • Strong background in all aspects of multi-color flow cytometry (up to 22 colors)
  • Experience in modern flow cytometry techniques for, immunophenotyping (characterization of cell surface and intracellular protein expression), receptor-occupancy and internalization kinetics
  • Experience with cell culture, cell isolation and in vitro/ex vivo assays
  • Experience in sample preparation, data acquisition, assay set-up and instrument maintenance
  • Experience in data analysis using various software such as Flow-Jo, FCS express, etc
  • Experience in aseptic techniques such as cell culture and handling
  • Experience in quantitation of large molecules and biomarkers by LBA (antibodies, ADCs, large molecule therapeutics and endogenous proteins such as cytokines) is a plus
  • Demonstrated success in the development or deployment of new technologies or processes
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment while remaining innovative, flexible, resourceful, and efficient
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented in data recording and review
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Previous experience mentoring junior staff required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); prior experience working with laboratory information systems (LIMS/ELN) to manage sample tracking and analysis is preferred.

 

Skills:

 

  • Experience in operating and troubleshooting flow cytometry instrumentation (experience with Attune NXT is a plus)
  • Experience in isolation and working with immune cells (experience with Gentle MACS is a plus)
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented in data recording and review
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment
  • Previous experience mentoring junior staff preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
