Financial Controller   

  

Summary  

DC Green Bank seeks a Financial Controller to help continue to build this cutting-edge, mission-driven program and organization. The Financial Controller is responsible for assisting the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in managing the organization’s finance and accounting functions, including assisting with the budgeting, reporting, and financial reporting processes. The Financial Controller will provide critical technical accounting expertise and ensure the organization’s long-term growth and financial health is adhered to. 

  

Responsibilities  

Corporate Accounting 

      • Assist and manage a financial accounting system for DC Green Bank, e.g creating management reports and implementing updates when necessary. 
      • Enforce the organization’s internal control framework, in collaboration with the CFO, and ensure compliance with policies and procedures. 
      • Manage the accounting function, including billing, financial reporting, general ledger, cost accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, tax compliance, and procurement. 
      • Manage the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial packages for review. 
      • Provide general accounting support to all levels of the organization. 
      • Analyze and interpret accounting information. 
      • Assist with coordinating with the external auditor for the preparation and delivery of required audits within the appropriate timeline. 
      • Assist with audit requests, including reconciliation preparation, document organization, and inquiry response. 
      • Maintain strong internal controls and keep process documentation up to date. 
      • Oversee the financial close process, including preparing journal entries, other supporting schedules, and critical account analysis and reconciliations. 
      • Assist with the filing of all tax returns and other statutory filings, if necessary. 
      • Assist the CFO in managing cash flow forecasting and projections for the bank. 
      • Assist with the annual budgeting process in coordination with the CFO. 


   

The Ideal Candidate  

The ideal candidate has proven experience in the commercial banking industry or nonprofit industry. They are familiar with GAAP and accounting for Commercial Real Estate lending, loan operations, and asset management. You will have a good understanding of project/program management techniques and methods. With exceptional time management, facilitation, verbal/written communication, and organizational skills.

Minimum Qualifications  

      • 4-year degree in business administration or a related field, or equivalent job experience 
      • Previous experience in a senior-level accountant, management, or financial controller role. 
      • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and willingness to ask questions to clarify assignments 
      • Proficiency with Excel and other Microsoft Office products 
      • Proficiency in working an online accounting software; experience with Sage Intaact is highly preferred 
      • Ability to process accounting transactions, prepare financial statements and reports. 
      • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with strong attention to detail 
      • Professional demeanor, strong work ethic, solid conflict resolution skills, and ability to maintain confidentiality 
      • Ability to work respectfully and build relationships across a variety of people and departments 
      • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment 
      • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities, and multi-task critical deliverables 
      • Proven problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze situations, identify existing or potential problems and recommend solutions

Position Details   

  • Status: Full-time  

  • Location: Washington, DC; Hybrid work environment, currently two (2) days in the office and three (3) days remote 

  • Salary: Maximum $145,000/annually
