POSITION SUMMARY

The Business Analyst is responsible for identifying the business needs of the organization to determine business solutions. The Business Analyst is a key facilitator within the organization, acting as a bridge between the client, stakeholders, and the IT solution team. The position will focus on key business processes that directly support business operations, accountability, and strategic direction. Working directly with functional end-users, the incumbent will be a highly technical and empathetic collaborator who will use critical thinking, creativity, and analytical skills to solve complex business challenges. This position reports to the Chief Information Officer. 


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following.

ANALYSIS & DECISION SUPPORT: (40%)

·       Gather requirements through end user meetings, workshops, surveys, and conversations to acquire information, analyze problems, and identify business needs.

·       Develop detailed business process flow diagrams to capture current and future state business processes to be used in specification and solution design.

·       Perform comprehensive research to identify best in class vendor software products, review major software upgrades, and design modifications to existing software applications

·       Analyze and evaluate business needs to create high-quality functional and technical specifications to be used by development teams when developing solutions.

·       Ensure that end-users' needs are articulated as fully and concisely as possible and that the development team and end-users are on the same page regarding requests.

 

PROJECT MANAGEMENT: (20%)

·       Provide leadership, planning, and specifications to projects and project teams as assigned.

·       Coordinate project team efforts ensuring timely delivery of properly functioning solutions.

·       Develop and maintain project management information, ongoing application support, and related documentation. 


DOCUMENTATION, TRAINING, & END-USER SUPPORT: (20%)

·       Organize and/or present short courses and training sessions, including training to key users in application system functionality.

·       Develop end user documentation, such as documentation for the implementation of new or modified application software or business processes.

·       Assist in the design and maintenance of comprehensive policies and procedures for IT business systems.

 

QUALITY ASSURANCE: (10%)

·       Develop test plans for product implementations (i.e., data feeds, customizations, enhancements, etc.) to verify that they function as specified.

·       Develop test plans for system upgrades and patches to verify that data integrity remains intact and that system performance is not negatively affected.

·       Investigate potential bugs to determine and document the cause and possible solutions.

INNOVATION/IMPLEMENTATION: (10%)

·       Identify best methods to improve the quality of our systems.

·       Research and bench-mark new methods and standard practices at other Higher Education institutions

·       Assist with project planning and coordination of new technology initiatives

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

There are no supervisory duties associated with this position

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

This position requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Technology, or related area and three (3) years of applicable technical work experience. A combination of education and experience that equals eight (8) years will be considered.

TECHNOLOGY SKILLS

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have:

·       Highly proficiency with data analytics, and experience with data manipulation using a variety of tools

·       Proficiency with at least one major business intelligence tool

o   (i.e., Microsoft Power BI, SAP BusinessObjects, IBM Cognos, Tableau Desktop, Crystal, etc.)

·       Proficiency with complex SQL queries

·       Expertise with testing and quality assurance best practices

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

·       Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP)

WORKING CONDITIONS

·       Remote with varying work times to be responsive to clients in the US. 

·       Must be available to work a flexible schedule.

·       Travel is primarily local during the business day. May require travel to other locations occasionally.
