Overview of the López Foundation Philanthropy Team

The Philanthropy Team makes grants directly to colleges and universities (or their supporting organizations) that are intentional and strategic in how they support first-generation students on their academic path and guidance toward economic opportunity.  Our college and university partners are four-year, both public and private, and are located in the five HGLF priority regions. Funding primarily supports undergraduate scholarships and student success services for a cohort of López Scholars, bearing the name of the founders.

The López Scholars Event Coordinator will be an integral part of the philanthropy team, ensuring that all López Scholar events and experiences further the academic, leadership, and career prospects of López Scholars across Texas. This role will also support the broader philanthropic team in convening university leaders and partners towards ensuring more first-generation students in Texas graduate with a Bachelor’s degree, on time, without debt. 

This position will report directly to the Foundation’s Student Success Officer and work closely with other Philanthropy and Foundation team members. 

 

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Manages all event planning, logistics, and vendor relationships for the annual López Scholars Leadership Summit 

  • Produces and manages in partnership with universities all on-campus events such as López Scholars Orientations and López Scholars Welcome Dinners 

  • Oversees and manages logistics for all López Scholars virtual events  

  • Supports the development and planning of HGLF and López Scholars learning communities in partnership with universities and third party vendors 

  • Manages logistics and coordination of HGLF in-person grant announcements  

  • Produces regular reporting to Foundation officers and to the Board of Directors

  • Works with external vendors when necessary to improve the López Scholar experience

Preferred Skills/Abilities:  

  • Strong organizational and detailed oriented skills with a drive to consistently produce high-quality events and experiences 

  • Excellent project management skills and the ability to track multiple event timelines, logistics, and vendor relationships 

  • Ability to translate a vision into reality by working effectively with HGLF staff to establish requirements for an event and managing an event through to completion

  • Can effectively build relationships and communicate with a wide range of stakeholders from López Scholars up to senior executives, industry leaders, and high-profile speakers

  • Possess a basic understanding of first-generation, student needs either through lived experience or research on the unique educational needs of first-generation, low-income and students

  • Flexible and open to change while holding self and others accountable for high-quality performance

 

Education and Experience

  • A minimum of 1-3 years of previous event planning and management experience with a track record of contributing to or leading high-profile events 

  • Bachelor’s Degree 

 

Additional Information 

The position is full-time and based at the Foundation offices located in downtown Austin, Texas. The Foundation maintains a hybrid work schedule with staff in the office three days a week. The role requires 20% travel primarily within Texas to HGLF partner universities and colleges. The salary for this position ranges from $67,000-$71,000, with exact salary depending on experience.
