Job Description
The Systems Engineer designs, develops and implements integrated software and hardware solutions in virtualized enterprise, containerized and consumer systems. Responsible for systems planning, performance management, capacity planning, testing and validation, benchmarking, and information engineering. Evaluates and troubleshoots systems and ensures efficient delivery of systems contract capabilities. Mitigates risks, controls costs and schedule variance, and effectively manages large scale, integrated projects.
Responsibilities
- Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for virtual systems
- Develops, deploys and supports customized VMware and containerized solutions
- Creates and maintains as-built and other systems drawings (flowcharts, Visio diagrams)
- Interprets and implements security baseline configurations for all system components
- Designs and implements system security and data assurance
- Analyzes user requirements, procedures, and problems to automate or improve existing systems
- Troubleshoots technical issues, and develops and implements solutions
- Identifies system integrity issues and solutions for the full system life cycle
- Conducts technical training and product briefings with customers
- Supports operational and maintenance phase for as-built systems
- Participates in special projects as required
Technical Skills Required:
- Design, installation, implementation and support of virtual network infrastructures
- Engineering of multiprotocol routers/switches and network security devices
- Windows and Linux operating systems
- Cisco routers, switches, firewalls and IP networking technology
- Highly proficient with virtualization technologies, specifically VMware 6.5 and above
- Software-defined networking (NSX-T and NSX-V) and firewalls
- Containerization technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes and Rancher
- Horizon/VDI
- Security and VPN solutions
- Experience with security hardening of systems (CIS benchmarks, STIGs, etc.)
- Integration of COTS software in a VMware environment
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education & experience
- 7+ years of experience in systems engineering including virtual network analysis, design & installation
- 7+ years of demonstrated hands-on experience with VMware version 6.5 and above
- 3+ years of experience in Horizon/VDI
- Must be proficient in software-defined networking (VMware NSX-T, Rancher)
- VCP certification strongly preferred
- 2+ years of experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, Rancher)
- Strong problem solving, analytic, and communication skills
- Capable of lifting and moving information technology equipment up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work well independently under pressure and time constraints, in a small team environment
- Ability to work occasional evenings and/or weekends as job duties demand
