Type:                               Part-Time Union Contract Position

Compensation:             $40.35/hr paid weekly; estimated                                                               $25,000-$30,000 annually

Schedule:                       In accordance show/work calls; mostly night   and weekend work.

Location:                        On-site in the Music Hall at Fair Park

Position Summary:

 

Join a dedicated team of tech personnel contributing to the quality of hundreds of annual musical, spoken word, and concert performances in the nearly 100 year old Music Hall at Fair Park! The historic venue’s sound system and acoustics have undergone a seven-figure upgrade as the very best of touring Broadway and events/concerts from Live Nation and other promoters have played a crucial role in significantly increased quality and quantity of programming. The head of audio works at least 40 hours during each touring Broadway presentation week and has a management role in audio crews for load-ins/outs, show runs, and special projects. This individual is responsible for planning in advance to meet show requirements and ensuring the department operates safely, effectively, and efficiently at the direction of touring and local management personnel.

 

This position requires regular on-site work in the Music Hall at Fair Park. Little or no remote work is anticipated in this role. Familiarity with Fair Park and its surrounding neighborhoods is strongly preferred.

 

Essential functions include but are not limited to:

  • Be present and fully engaged in the hours set forward by the Production Manager and Head Carpenter for events/performances and all maintenance/work calls
  • Oversight, coordination, & maintenance of audio and video equipment during productions and events in residence in the Music Hall
  • Oversight and coordination of all audio department stagehands and any video technicians
  • Acquisition and setup of supplies and equipment for backstage areas
  • Maintain regular inventory checks and generate schedule for routine maintenance of department equipment
  • Clear and regular communication with Stage Managers, production technicians, Production Manager, and Director of Production to ensure the smooth functioning of operations
  • Responsibility for the safety of audio/video technicians, other production staff, and patrons throughout the work day
  • Supervise and manage audio/video technicians in production duties
  • Ability to troubleshoot audio and video equipment in efficient and timely manner
  • Ability to operate digital and analog audio consoles (including mixing and monitor mixing for shows)
  • Fully familiarize themselves with the Music Hall’s audio and video equipment and infrastructure
  • Attend requested production meetings and production post-mortems
  • Assist in other production departments with projects as time and needs allow: build, paint, or install scenic elements; hang, circuit or focus electric or lighting elements, lift and move objects
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Requirements:

  • Five years or more experience in professional technical theater
  • Experience in soldering, cable construction, electronics repair, and rigging
  • Familiarity with and ability to use all of the tools necessary to perform duties
  • Experience reading and interpreting run sheets, technical documents, construction and design drawings, technical riders, draftings/plots, input/output lists, etc.
  • Demonstrated fluency in Microsoft Office (primarily Outlook, Word, and Excel)
  • Demonstrated time management skills: ability to perform well under pressure, meet deadlines, and work independently
  • At least two years experience working at a venue or touring team with at least two other department heads
  • Three years or more experience overseeing a run crew
  • Flexibility, creativity, and resourcefulness
  • Reliable transportation to and from the Music Hall
  • Mobility: ability to stand, bend, crawl, reach, carry, climb ladders, stairs
  • Safely lifting loads of 50 pounds by oneself, lifting 100 pounds with two people and up to 200 pounds with three people
  • Visual acuity to distinguish color, texture, and patterns
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and ear for sound irregularities/issue diagnoses as well as familiarity with associated prescriptions

  • Demonstrated appreciation for theatre, musicals or the performing arts generally
